Sadhguru, founder of Isha Foundation, has spoken on a very sensitive issue related to India’s strategic security and sovereignty. During the satsang organized at Sadhguru Sannidhi in Bengaluru, when he was asked a question on the comments made by the interim government of Bangladesh regarding the Siliguri Corridor, he termed it as a ’78 year old anomaly’, a result of the partition of India.

‘India lost the opportunity created in 1971’

Sadhguru said that the Siliguri Corridor, commonly known as the ‘Chicken Neck’, is a very narrow stretch of land connecting the north-eastern states of India with the rest of the country. This situation was created at the time of partition of 1947. He said that even though India may not have had the right or circumstances to improve it in 1946-47, but after the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, India had full opportunity and right, which was lost.

Siliguri Corridor 78 year old anomaly created by partition of India

Sadhguru also shared his views on social media platform ‘X’. He wrote on ‘X’, ‘Siliguri Corridor is a 78-year-old anomaly created by the partition of India, which should have been corrected in 1971. Now when the sovereignty of the country is being openly challenged, the time has come to nurture this ‘chicken’ and turn it into an ‘elephant’.

Siliguri Corridor is a 78-year-old anomaly created by Bharat’s partition, which should have been corrected in 1971. Now that there is an open threat to the nation’s sovereignty, it is time to nourish the chicken and allow it to evolve into an elephant. -Sg pic.twitter.com/oHyhZ03y4l

 — Sadhguru (@SadhguruJV) December 28, 2025

Sadhguru said in symbolic language that the foundation of any country cannot rest on weakness. He said, ‘The nation cannot run only as a ‘chicken’, it has to become an ‘elephant’. For this, if nutrition is needed, strength is needed, or any other concrete steps have to be taken, then that will have to be done. Every step has a cost, but the security of the nation is bigger than that.

‘This thinking is not practical in the current global situation’

He also said that in an ideal situation the world could be without borders and countries, but in the current global situation this thinking is not practical. It would be nice if the world had no borders, but we are not at that level yet. To suddenly assume that everything will be fine is an impractical thought.

‘The neck of an elephant is easy to handle’

Sadhguru reiterated that this discrepancy is only 78 years old and correction is still possible. Saying, ‘The neck of an elephant is easy to handle,’ he clarified that strengthening the Siliguri Corridor is the need of the hour.

It is noteworthy that Sadhguru has earlier also expressed concern about the violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, destruction of temples and demographic pressure.

According to intelligence and defense sources of New Delhi, India has created 3 new military posts on the Bangladesh border. These posts have been made at Bamuni in Dhubri, Assam, Kishanganj in Bihar and Chopra in West Bengal. India is now increasing its closeness with Pakistan, the enemy country which had liberated Bangladesh 54 years ago. After Mohammad Yunus takes power in Bangladesh in 2024, relations with India are worsening day by day. Not only this, on November 9, after 54 years, a warship reached the coast of Bangladesh, which is Pakistan’s PNS Saif.

So let us understand in ABP Explainer how India-Bangladesh relations broke down, why Yunus is supporting Pakistan and whether something big is going to happen…

Question 1- How has India helped Bangladesh in the last 54 years?
answer- Today’s Bangladesh was once East Pakistan. Fed up with the atrocities of the Pakistani Army and the discrimination of the government there, the rebellion started. Bangladesh was formed by defeating Pakistan on 16 December 1971 with the help of Indian Army. In the last 7 decades, India was always ready to help its new neighbour. Even after suffering losses many times…

In 1996, the two countries signed a ‘Ganga Water Sharing’ treaty for the Ganges River, which was essential for Bangladesh’s agricultural and water needs.

In 2006, India took a unilateral decision, after which all goods from Bangladesh except cigarettes and liquor come to India at zero tariff. People of Bangladesh buy fabric from China and make clothes and send it to India. This causes problems to India’s local industry. Despite this he has got this facility.

From 2010 to 2020, India gave a line of credit of about 8 billion dollars i.e. about 68 thousand crore rupees. Invested in 17 projects like roads, railways and ports.

In 2015, under the Land Boundary Agreement, both the countries divided 162 small areas, which ended the border dispute. In this, India gave 10 thousand acres more land to Bangladesh.

During Covid in 2021, India gave 33 lakh Covishield vaccines to Bangladesh free of cost and also sent medicines and equipment for hospitals.

In 2022-23, there was trade between the two countries worth 12.2 billion dollars i.e. about Rs 1.4 lakh crore. It contains most of the daily needs items.

From 2023, India will send 2 thousand MW electricity to Bangladesh every day. Apart from this, diesel will be supplied to Bangladesh through India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline from 2023.

India had given a grant of Rs 120 crore to Bangladesh for 2024-25. Apart from this, India has given a total line of credit of about Rs 66 thousand crores, out of which a large amount was spent on infrastructure projects.

Even in 2025, India retained a grant of Rs 120 crore. Apart from this, India provided funding to 77 small projects under High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs).

Question 2- How did the attitude of Bangladesh change after the government of Mohammad Yunus?
answer- After the rebellion in Bangladesh in August 2024, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to flee the country and took refuge in India. An interim government was formed in Bangladesh and Mohammad Yunus became its head. India-Bangladesh relations were very strong during the time of Sheikh Hasina, but after that the anti-India activities of Bangladesh increased…

1. Bangladesh increased its closeness to Pakistan

Muhammad Yunus visited Pakistan in September and December 2024 and talked about strengthening relations by forgetting grudges.

Mohammad Yunus government abolished visa security clearance for Pakistanis.

Direct maritime connectivity between Pakistan and Bangladesh was started in November 2024.

According to The Tribune report, the Yunus government had ordered ammunition to Pakistan, which included more than 40 thousand rounds of ammunition and 2,900 RDX of 40 tonnes.

On October 24, 2025, Pakistan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee chief Shahid Shamshad Mirza reached Bangladesh. Mohammad Yunus gifted him the book ‘Art of Triumph’ containing the map of Greater Bangladesh.

On November 8, Pakistani Navy Chief Admiral Naved Ashraf also reached Bangladesh on a four-day official visit.

On November 8, Pakistani warship ‘PNS Saif’ reached Chittagong port of Bangladesh via the Bay of Bengal.

2. Bangladesh increased its closeness to China

On 26-29 March 2025, Muhammad Yunus visited China and participated in the Boao Forum for Asia. He met Chinese leaders and signed many agreements.

China will invest more than $1 billion in Bangladesh by 2025, which includes the development of Mongla port. This port is about 200 kilometers away from Kolkata, which increased India’s concerns.

China announced to donate 4 hospitals, robotic physiotherapy center and cardiac surgery vehicle to Bangladesh.

China had announced funding of about Rs 3400 crore for the establishment of Industrial Economic Zone (CEIZ) and Mongla Port.

On October 8, the Bangladesh government approved the purchase of 20 Chinese J-10CE fighter jets for $2.2 billion.

On October 19, hundreds of people gathered near Shaheed Minar of Chittagong University in Bangladesh demanding implementation of the China-backed Teesta Master Plan. India is against this plan.

3. Bangladesh started showing eyes to India

On 13 April 2025, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) of Bangladesh banned the import of yarn from India through Benapole, Bhomra, Banglabandha, Barimari and Sona Masjid land ports.

Asif Nazrul, legal advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh, had said while replying to the Vijay Diwas tweet of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ’16 December 1971 was the victory day of Bangladesh. India was just an ally, nothing more.

Mohammad Yunus gifted the book Art of Triumph to many foreign guests. In the controversial map of ‘Greater Bangladesh’ made on this, the north-eastern areas of India have been described as part of Bangladesh.

Question 3- So now does India face a bigger threat from Bangladesh, which has built military posts?
answer- India created 3 new military posts to secure the Siliguri Corridor i.e. Chicken Neck. These are operationally ready and are the answer to the threat from China-Pak-Bangladesh alliance. Apart from this, India reactivated Kailashahar airbase in Tripura, so that the North-East can be kept an eye on.

Actually, Chicken Neck is located in the Indian state of West Bengal, which is 22 kilometers wide. Chicken Neck is very special from the security point of view of India, because it connects North-Eastern India with the western states. If this route is stopped in any way then the north-eastern states of India will be separated and the country will be divided into two parts. It is through this route that imports and exports are made to the north-eastern states of India.

Question 4- Then how can India teach a lesson to Bangladesh?
answer- According to foreign affairs expert and NEHU professor Prosenjit Biswas, India can teach a lesson to Bangladesh in 3 ways…

Creating economic pressure: In April 2025, India retaliated against Bangladesh and closed the trans-shipment facility, due to which Bangladesh suffered a loss of about Rs 6,500 crore annually. In May 2025, India imposed import restrictions on Bangladeshi yarn, rice and garments. In response, Bangladesh banned Indian products, but Bangladesh suffered more losses due to India’s trade surplus exceeding ($11 billion). In Budget 2025, India has planned to boost its textile industry so that Bangladesh’s garment market share can be snatched away. Similarly, India should put pressure on Bangladesh.

Increasing Tariff on Agricultural Products: India warned of increasing tariffs on Bangladesh’s agricultural products like jute, fish and tobacco. The increase in tariff will be a big blow to Bangladesh’s economy, because 16% of Bangladesh’s GDP comes from exports and India is the second largest export market.

Control over power supply: India supplies 2 MW electricity to Bangladesh, which is a major part of Bangladesh’s energy needs. India may reduce supplies or tighten payment terms. This may affect the industrial activities and life of Bangladesh.

Question 5- Will the relations between India and Bangladesh improve or worsen in future?
answer- On April 4, 2025, PM Modi and Mohammad Yunus met for the first time during the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, Thailand. Modi said, ‘We want a positive relationship, but pay attention to the safety of Hindus and extremism.’ Yunus replied, ‘Send Hasina back, she is spreading falsehood.’ This meeting was limited to photos only, no agreement was reached.

Prosenjit Biswas says, ‘It is very difficult to improve relations between India and Bangladesh in 2026, because Bangladesh is coming closer to India’s enemy countries. At the same time, elections can be held in Bangladesh in April 2026. If Bangladesh Nationalist Party wins in this, relations with India will worsen. Bangladesh will stop all trade with India, blockage will start at Chicken Neck, India will completely bypass North-East and movement of goods will happen through Kaladan Port (Myanmar). Bangladesh will suffer the most because about 2 crore Bangladeshis will be unemployed and GDP will fall by 3.8%. But if Awami League comes to power then relations are expected to improve.

For the first time after the 1971 war, a warship from Pakistan has reached Bangladesh. Pakistan Navy’s warship PNS Saif has reached Chittagong (Chattogram), Bangladesh. Although it is being described as a goodwill mission, the special thing is that during this time, Pakistani Navy Chief Navid Ashraf is also present in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.

On Ashraf’s visit, Bangladesh Army issued an official statement saying that the Pakistani Navy Chief has met Bangladesh Army Chief Waqar Uz Zama during his visit to Dhaka. During this meeting, both of them discussed increasing defense cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh. Also, emphasis was laid on strengthening the military strength of both the countries.

Bangladesh Navy salutes Pakistani ship
According to Bangladesh Navy, the command of this warship is with Captain Shujaat Abbas Raja. Before reaching Chittagong, the Pakistani ship was given a formal salute at sea by the Bangladesh Navy and escorted to the port. During the visit, officers of the navies of both the countries will talk to each other. Let us tell you that this journey will end on 12th November.

Let us tell you that after the departure of Sheikh Hasina government in August 2024, Pakistan was among the first countries which welcomed the interim government of Mohammad Yunus. Since then, relations between Dhaka and Islamabad are continuously improving, while tension in the relations between India and Bangladesh is increasing.

Pakistani warships are suffering from technical problems
Pakistani warship PNS Saif is suffering from technical fault these days. According to reports, there has been a malfunction in the HP-5 stabilizer system of this warship. Due to this, the control of the ship may be affected during the sea voyage and there may be a lot of problems in navigation. PNS Saif was sold by China to Pakistan in 2010. This is the same frigate class ship which also includes PNS Shamsheer and PNS Asalat.

According to defense analysts, China had collected about Rs 6,375 crore from Pakistan for the supply of ships of this class, but now the repeated malfunctions have once again raised questions on the quality of Chinese weapons.

Bangladesh on Sunday (August 25, 2025) raised the pending issues in front of Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, apologizing for the 1971 war. Dar is the most senior leader of Pakistan to visit Dhaka since 2012.

Dar reached Dhaka on Saturday on a two -day visit to Bangladesh. Her aim is to improve the relationship with Bangladesh after the long -time Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has removed from the post. Dar interacted with M Tauheed Hussain, the foreign advisor of the interim government of Bangladesh.

Problems of 54 years difficult to solve in a single day

Tauheed Hussain told reporters after a meeting with Dar, “We have raised unresolved issues, such as forgiveness or regret for 1971, claims on assets and the case of trapped Pakistani citizens.” He said that it would be wrong to expect that the problems of 54 years will be solved in a single day.

The foreign advisor of the interim government of Bangladesh said at a press conference, “Both countries have presented their own status on these issues.” Dar said that unresolved issues of 1971 were resolved twice. In 1974, in 1974, in the tripartite talks of New Delhi in India and then later, the then President of Pakistan, Pervez Musharraf, resolves the issue of massacre during his visit to Dhaka. He spoke on this publicly with an open mind.

Five MoU signed

Hussain said that an agreement and five MoUs (MoUs) were signed between the two countries. Hussain said that both countries have agreed that historical issues should be resolved through discussion to carry forward bilateral relations.

Pakistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar has reached Bangladesh on a three -day visit. Pakistan has described this tour as “historic” because after more than a decade, a Foreign Minister of Pakistan has gone to Bangladesh. Earlier, Hina Rabbani Khar visited Dhaka in 2012. There is a discussion about this tour whether Pakistan will apologize for its role in the 1971 liberation struggle.

Why was the tour averted earlier
Ishaq Dar was scheduled to visit Dhaka in April, but the tour was postponed due to increasing tension after the Pahalgam attack. Now on Saturday (August 23, 2025), he reached Dhaka in the afternoon, where he was welcomed from many political parties.

Meeting political parties
After reaching Dhaka, Dar met Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh and National Citizen Party (NCP) leaders. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said that Dar appreciated the “reformist thinking and vision of social justice” of NCP leaders and emphasized more dialogue between the youth.

The NCP said after the meeting that it is necessary to resolve the 1971 issue to carry forward the relationship. Jamaat-e-Islami also demanded to resolve unresolved issues soon. No statement came from BNP yet, but Dar’s meeting with party president Khaleda Jia is scheduled on Sunday evening.

1971 issue again in discussion
It remains a big question in Bangladesh whether Pakistan will apologize for its role in the 1971 war. Foreign Affairs advisor Tauheed Hussain tried to contact this, but he did not get available. The Dhaka-Islamabad relationship was cold during the former Awami League government. However, the situation has started changing after the change of power last year and now high -level meetings are being held.

Recent tours link
Prior to Ishaq Dar, Pakistan Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan also reached Bangladesh and met the leaders there. Analysts believe that these visits will lead to new political pace in the relationship between the two countries.

Opinion of experts
Former ambassador M. Humayun Kabir says that this level of trips bring pace in relationships and give a chance to negotiate every issue. He said – “Pakistan will have to take responsibility for the massacre of 1971 and it will have to be accepted publicly.” In the meeting of Foreign Secretary level on April 17, Bangladesh again raised the issue of compensation and apology.

It was told that dues of $ 4.32 billion were demanded from Pakistan, but Pakistan did not mention any unresolved issue in its statement. Former Ambassador Rashid Ahmed Chaudhary believes that real progress in relationships is not possible without apologizing for the 1971 massacre.

New agreements and MoUs
Six agreements and MoUs are ready between the two countries. These include issues such as ending visas for government and diplomatic passport holders and formulating shared strategies on business.

India and international eyesight
According to BBC Hindi, analyst Leela Jansito says that India is keeping a close watch on this tour. He said that relations between India and Pakistan are not good and there was a conflict between the two countries in May. In such a situation, India is worried about Pakistan Bangladesh.

American analyst Michael Kugalman described it as a huge Bhurajnical event of South Asia. He says that during the 15 -year tenure of the Hasina government, the relationship between the two countries was almost stalled. Now a new beginning is happening, but its effect will be clear only after the Bangladesh elections in February. Kugalman believes that if the next government is formed under the leadership of BNP, it will try to improve relations with India, although the challenges will remain.

India’s increased tension!
Since 1971, India has been continuously supporting Bangladesh in every field. Ever since Sheikh Hasina has been removed from the post of Prime Minister and Mohammad Yunus has become the head of the interim government, Pakistan has got a chance and has been busy increasing the closeness with Bangladesh. In such a situation, when Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has reached Dhaka, India is also keeping an eye on it because Mohammad Yunus is constantly taking such decisions which are not in the interest of India.

There has been a tense atmosphere between India and Pakistan once again. The Indian Army took major action by targeting 9 bases of terrorists in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir under Operation Sindoor. After which there is an atmosphere of war between the two countries.

Innocent people killed in Pahalgam from Operation Sindoor
The Indian Army avenged the Pahalgam terrorist attack by attacking terrorists in Pakistan. In the Pahalgam attack, the terrorists killed 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen. After this, India destroyed terrorist bases in Pakistan.

Only targeted terrorist bases
After dismantling the terrorists’ bases in Pakistan, the Indian Army said in a statement that this action was restrained and targeted only terrorist structures in Pakistan, the Indian Army had not damaged any Pakistani army post. However, a missile attack was carried out by the air defense system by targeting many Indian cities on behalf of Pakistan.

Pakistan attacked these cities of India in the last battle

This is not the first time that there is such tension between India and Pakistan. Earlier, Pakistan had targeted many cities in India, especially during 1965, 1971 and 1999, Pakistan targeted many cities in India.

Indo-Pak War of 1965: Which cities were targeted?
The war of 1965 started mainly with Kashmir. In 1965, Pakistan infiltrated Jammu and Kashmir and provoked local rebels, which led to border clashes, while this clash took the form of war. During this time, Pakistan attacked the adjacent areas of Amritsar, Kutch, Akhnoor and Sialkot in India. At the same time, the Indian Army also retaliated strongly on this attack and captured many posts of Pakistan.

1971 war: Attack on Eastern and Western Front
The 1971 war was over the independence of Bangladesh. However, Pakistan also attacked the western region of India in this war. On 3 December 1971, Pakistan carried out airblaces on the airbase near Ambala, Amritsar, Agra, Bhatinda, Srinagar, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Jaisalmer. This war lasted for 13 days. At the same time, Bangladesh became a separate country in this war and with this this war ended.

Kargil War of 1999: Pakistan targeted many areas of Kashmir
In the Kargil war, the Pakistan Army tried to capture the high hills in the Indian region by infiltrating India. The Kargil War was fought between May to July 1999. This fight was fought in Kargil, Dras, Batalik and surrounding areas of Jammu and Kashmir. Although big cities were not attacked in this war, there were tremendous shelling and air strikes in the border areas.

After the Pahalgam terror attack, the streak of enmity between India and Pakistan has once again deepened. India is completely in the mood to take action on Pakistan. Due to this, Pakistan is trembling and is making rhetoric. Meanwhile, today we have brought such an anecdote of India and Pakistan which is based on a bike. This story is between Yahya Khan, who is leading the Pakistani army in the 1971 war and Sam Manekshaw, who leads the Indian Army.

Yahya Khan and Sam Manekshaw used to be good friends at one time. During the same friendship, Yahya Khan took the bike from Sam Manekshaw, but he never paid his price. But when Pakistan lost after the 1971 war and East Pakistan i.e. Bangladesh emerged on the world map, Sam Manekshaw made a statement about that bike.

When Yahya Khan liked Manekshaw’s bike

Sam Manekshaw and Yahya Khan’s friendship is of the time when India and Pakistan were not divided. At that time there was a British Indian Army and Sam Manekshaw and Yahya Khan used to be in the same army. Sam Manekshaw was the Lieutenant Colonel at that time and Yahya Khan was posted as Major. Friendship was good between the two, Yahya Khan liked a bike from Sam Manekshaw. He asked Sam to sell them. It is said that Manekshaw gave that bike to Yahya Khan for 1000 rupees. When the two countries separated, both of them had to take charge of their country’s army, but Sam Manekshaw never paid the price of the bike.

Bike money was not paid even after years

It had been more than 23 years since the two countries separated, but till now Yahya Khan had not given that 1000 rupees of the bike to Sam Manekshaw yet. Both had moved forward in their lives. Yahya Khan’s administration in East Pakistan was torturing him a lot. The people of East Pakistan did not have the rights like Western Pakistanis. In such a situation, in 1971, there was a war to separate East Pakistan i.e. Bangladesh from Pakistan.

The price of the bike had to be paid by paying half the country

India was attacked by Pakistan in 1971, after which Sam Manekshaw’s army taught Pakistan a good lesson. Then on 16 December 1971, a new country Bangladesh emerged. Yahya Khan had lost badly. The price of the bike was not paid by Yahya Khan even then, but Sam Manekshaw was also known for funny style. After the 1971 war, Sam Manekshaw said in his statement that Yahya Khan has paid the price of my bike by paying half his country.
