Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to him on Thursday (2 October 2025) on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. He said that India will realize the dream of ‘self -sufficient’ and ‘developed India’ by following the path shown by him. PM Modi reached Rajghat on Thursday morning and also paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.

PM Modi wrote in a post on social media platform X, “On Gandhi Jayanti, we remember the extraordinary life of our beloved Bapu, whose ideals changed human history. He showed how courage and simplicity could become a source of great change. They believed in the power of service and compassion, because they were an essential way to strengthen people. We were a need to strengthen people. We will remain in our goals of developing India.”

International non -violence day

Mahatma Gandhi is remembered for his life dedication to truth, non -violence and social justice on ‘Gandhi Jayanti’. This day not only respects their peace and ideology of moral life, but is also celebrated globally as International Non -Violence Day.

Apart from Mahatma Gandhi, PM Modi also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. He also presented the example of leadership, power and decisive action even in challenging times. His slogan of ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’ arouses a spirit of patriotism among our people. Lal Bahadur Shastri became the second Prime Minister of India after the death of Jawaharlal Nehru in 1964.

Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba got married when both of them were just 13 years old. It was a child marriage, which was common at that time. Initially, Gandhiji tried to run his wife as a husband according to her, but Kasturba always maintained her self-respect. Gradually, Gandhiji also admitted that Kasturba’s insistence, his courage and his dedication is the greatest strength of his life. Gandhiji wrote that was very stubborn, but his nature used to make him strong. I tried to change them, but failed, later understood that she was the best. When Gandhiji was in South Africa, Kasturba started her public life from there, in which she also went to jail, sat in dharna and became a part of every struggle in which Gandhi was there. Even after returning to India, she never left behind. Champaran movement, Salt Satyagraha, Quit India Movement was with them everywhere.

What did Gandhiji say when Kasturba died?

Kasturba’s health deteriorated in early 1944. She was struggling with a heart attack and was with Gandhiji in the prisoner of Aga Khan Palace. He was placed on oxygen support. He realized that now the last moments of his life have come. On 22 February 1944, Kasturba said goodbye to this world by placing his head in Gandhiji’s lap. His last words were not to mourn my death. This should be an opportunity for a bliss. On 23 February, he was cremated at Aga Khan Palace. Gandhiji sat near the whole pyre, until the fire was extinguished. After Kasturba’s death, Gandhiji remembered him and said that even if there was anything, she was above me. Without their unwavering support, I would go to the abyss, they gave me the power to stay on the true path. She was illiterate, but in my view she was a living example of true education.
