50 rupees coin: In the Delhi High Court, the central government informed that there is no plan to bring a coin of 50 rupees at present. The Finance Ministry has filed an affidavit that a survey conducted by the Reserve Bank of India in the year 2022 revealed that the general public prefers notes more than coins for 10 and 20.

In fact, during the hearing of a PIL in the Delhi High Court, this case came to light, which was filed by a petitioner named Rohit. The petition sought to make 50 and less worth of notes and coins more recognizable for visually impaired citizens.

In the petition filed in the Delhi High Court, the petitioner claimed that he has studied the flaws in the currency design, which has found that the 50 rupee note would not be clearly different from other notes. At the same time, the Finance Ministry also admitted that new series notes with Mahatma Gandhi of 10, 20 and 50 do not have textile characteristics like Angular bleed lines and raised prints. Due to their high handling, these features are worn quickly. In the Delhi High Court, the Finance Ministry said that re -implementing these textile features will greatly affect the cost and efficiency.

The Finance Ministry said that although the size of every note in the new Mahatma Gandhi series is different, which visually impaired can identify them through touch. The ministry also acknowledged that both old and new series with Mahatma Gandhi’s photo are in the trend together, there could be difficulty in identity. The Finance Ministry has expressed confidence in the Delhi High Court that as the old series notes are naturally out of circulation, the specialty of the new series will make the identity very easy for the obstructed people.
