Senior Samajwadi Party leader and former Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam have been kept in Barrack No. 1 of Rampur District Jail. According to the jail administration, both of them will have to remain quarantined in the barrack for 10 days. The decision regarding this was given yesterday (Monday, November 17).

Rampur MP/MLA Special Court on Friday (November 15) had convicted Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam Khan in two PAN card cases. Also, he was sentenced to a maximum imprisonment of seven years. Along with this, a total fine of Rs 50,000 was also imposed on both of them.

After the court’s verdict, the police took the father and son into custody and sent them to Rampur District Jail, where after medical examination, they were kept in quarantine in Barrack No. 1.

When asked questions by the prosecution lawyer, it was told that an application has been filed on behalf of Azam Khan and his son, in which a request has been made to keep both of them together inside the district jail. This application is to be heard today. Now it remains to be seen what decision the court gives.

What is duplicate PAN card issue?

This case related to Azam Khan and Abdullah Azam is of the year 2016. Actually, Abdullah Azam had to file nomination from Swar seat for the UP Assembly elections 2017, but the date of birth written on his PAN card was 1 January 1993. According to this, Abdullah was only 24 years old, whereas according to the rules, to become an MLA, it is necessary for a candidate to complete 25 years of age.

The allegation was that Azam Khan made another fake PAN card for his son, in which the date of birth of Abdullah Azam was written as 30 September 1990. This fake PAN card was used in the bank passbook and nomination form. The court found both Azam and his son guilty in this case and sentenced them to 7 years each.

Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan and his son former MLA Mohammad Abdullah Azam have been found guilty in two PAN card cases by the Special MP/MLA Magistrate Court of Rampur. The court has given this decision today on Monday (17 November), which is an important turning point in this case registered in the year 2019. In the year 2019, on 6 December 2019, a case was registered in Civil Lines police station of Rampur. BJP MLA Akash Saxena had alleged that Abdullah Azam had made two PAN cards on the basis of two different dates of birth.

The BJP MLA alleges that the PAN card was made on the basis of false and forged documents and it was used in bank accounts, income tax and elections. It is alleged that in one PAN card the date of birth is 1st January 1993, while in the other the date of birth is 30th September 1990. The police completed the investigation of the FIR and filed the charge sheet against Abdullah in the court.

Azam Khan was released on bail from Sitapur jail on 23 September.

After completion of arguments from both the prosecution and defense side, on November 7, the court had set November 17 as the date for decision on the files. Azam Khan was released on bail from Sitapur jail on 23 September and is currently out but now he may have to go to jail once again.

A similar situation is with Azam’s son Abdullah. In the year 2022, his father Azam Khan first went to the legislative and then in the year 2023, Abdullah’s legislator went away. He was an MLA from Swar seat. Later the by -election was held on that seat. The 6 -year duration in Abdullah’s case is completed in 2029. In such a situation, both father and son cannot contest 2027 elections in the current situation.

Please tell Abdullah’s legislator has gone twice. For the first time on 16 December 2019, the Allahabad High Court canceled his election in terms of age -related forgery. His membership was considered zero from the same date. For the second time on 13 February 2023, the Moradabad MP-MLA court sentenced him to two years in a 2008 case, after which the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Secretariat canceled his membership and declared the Swar seat vacant.

Along with this, orders have been issued to submit arms to Ganj Kotwali police and send the report to the court. After the court order, Azam family will have to submit their license and arms to the police station.

SP leader Azam Khan is lodged in Sitapur jail these days. Whereas, his wife Dr. Tanzin Fatima and former MLA son Abdullah Azam are currently out on bail. Due to the cases registered on SP leader Azam Khan, the administration revoked their arms licenses in the year 2019. Azam had moved the High Court against this decision, from where he also got relief.
