BJP secured two-third majority in Bengal

In the meeting with Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh discussed the political situation after the assembly elections in West Bengal and reiterated his support for opposition unity against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP won 207 seats in the 294-member West Bengal Assembly and secured a two-thirds majority in the House, ending Trinamool Congress’s 15-year rule in the state. Trinamool Congress had to be satisfied with just 80 seats in the assembly elections.

After the defeat in Bengal, Mamata Banerjee had said that now she will focus on strengthening the opposition alliance at the national level.
