Delhi Metro, which is the lifeline of the capital and surrounding areas, delivers millions of passengers to their destination every day. Delhi Metro consumes 3 million units of electricity every day, which is about 2.5% of Delhi’s total power consumption. This figure is really shocking.

Power consumption expenses

If the average price of electricity in Delhi is considered, then the cost of daily electricity consumption of Delhi Metro comes to about Rs 1.83 crore daily. This expense is paid to operate metro trains, lighting of stations, lifts, escalators and ventilation systems. DMRC receives 50% of this electricity from Discom in Delhi, UP and Haryana, while the remaining 99 MW is received from off-site solar plant and 140 MW rooftop solar plant. Due to which DMRC is also protecting the environment using solar energy.

Adequate backup facility

In an emergency, DMRC traction consists of an average of four sub -stations on one line, in which electricity can be taken from other sub -stations when someone fails, that is, DMRC also has adequate backup facilities.
