Dhaka Police spokesperson Muhammad Talebur Rahman told reporters that our regular operational activities include quick response exercises to be prepared for any emergency. This exercise took place at a time when just three days ago the Army had recalled half of its approximately 60,000 soldiers deployed on policing duty for the last 15 months. Bangladesh’s military said troops needed rest and training, but promised full support with the deployment of additional forces for elections scheduled in February.
