The matter of demolition of 38 buildings of Johar University in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh has taken a completely political color. In this series, Congress’ Uttar Pradesh in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam, who reached Rampur on Tuesday, visited the university campus and met the students and management. Along with this, he also met Azam Khan’s wife Dr. Tanzeem Fatima.

Regarding this meeting, Congress leader Rajendra Pal Gautam posted on X and wrote – “Today, after visiting Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, I had an intimate meeting with senior Samajwadi Party leader and former minister Mohammad Azam Khan ji’s wife and former MLA Tanzin Fatima ji at her residence in Rampur. During this, inquired about the health and well-being of Dr. Tanzin Fatima ji and also met other family members to know about her well-being.”

Congress leader Rajendra Pal Gautam, while talking to the media, targeted the state government while opposing the action being taken on 38 buildings of Johar University. Rajendra Pal Gautam said that Mohammad Ali Johar was a great freedom fighter, educationist and revolutionary leader. It is not appropriate to target the university named after him. He raised the question that if this university had been by any other name, would it have been treated similarly?

students will be harmed

Rajendra Pal Gautam said that students of all religions and communities are getting education in Johar University and employees of different sections are also working. In such a situation, students will suffer the most due to action against this center of education. The Congress leader said that at present relief (stay) has been received from the court and the matter is under consideration in the judicial process. He appealed to the government to avoid actions like demolishing universities and keep educational institutions safe.

Expressed protest against expensive education

Rajendra Pal Gautam alleged that the education system in the state and the country is becoming increasingly expensive, due to which the financial burden on poor and middle class students is increasing. He said that the Congress Party will continue to raise its voice in the interest of educational institutions and students and will raise this issue strongly at the political level along with the legal fight.

In response to a question on the judiciary, he said that the matter is pending in the court and the legal process will take its course. He said that Congress respects the judicial process and will make every democratic and constitutional effort to save the university.
