Various rallies to be held in the next two weeks of Tamilga Vatri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay in Tamil Nadu have been temporarily postponed. TVK gave this information on Wednesday (October 01, 2025).

In Karur, 41 people were killed and more than 60 people were injured in a stampede at a rally held on September 27 under the leadership of TVK chief Vijay. Vijay started ‘meet people’ initiative on Saturday and till now he has visited Tiruchirappalli, Namakkal and Karur.

Social media posted information

In a post on the party’s official social media handle, pointing to the Karur tragedy, it was said, ‘We are deeply sorrow and regret on the death of our 41 brothers. In this situation, the proposed programs of the next two weeks of our leader (Vijay) are being temporarily postponed. The revised details of these programs will be released later.

This is said to the victims through video message

In a message on his social media page on Tuesday, he said, ‘I did not visit Karur as it could have created an unusual situation. I will soon meet you (from the families of the victims and the injured).

Vijay said that the truth of the incident would also be revealed soon and indicated that he is ready to face action. He said, ‘You can do anything with me.’ Vijay said this at a time when the police have registered a case against his party partners in connection with the stampede in West Karur district of Tamil Nadu on 27 September.

41 people lost their lives in a painful stampede in Karur, Tamil Nadu on Sunday evening. The accident occurred during the rally of actor and Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay. The police have accused Vijay of ‘deliberate power demonstration’ in the FIR.

Vijay reached four hours late
According to the police, the rally was to start at 9 am and by 11 am a large number of people had gathered. Vijay’s speech was fixed at 12 noon, but he reached around 7 pm. Meanwhile, the crowd increased from 10 thousand to almost three times. The police allege that Vijay deliberately delayed so that people’s expectations increase.

Road show without permission
The FIR states that Vijay’s campaign just stopped at many places without a fixed program. This made it like a road show, for which no permission was taken. Police also said that during this time the traffic was affected and due to lack of food and drink facilities, the crowd became uncontrollable.

Barricade broke, dies of roof collapses
Police said that TVK workers broke barricades planted to stop the mob and climbed on the roof of a shed tin. Suddenly the roof fell and many people died. This accident became the reason for big stampe.

Political accusation
After this incident, politics has also become hot. The ruling DMK and Vijay’s party TVK are face to face. TVK described this incident as ‘DMK conspiracy’ and has demanded a CBI inquiry in the Madras High Court. TVK lawyer Arivazhagan said that ‘we did not violate any rules. Many of our rallies were completed without any accident.

DMK response
DMK spokesperson Dr. Syed Hafeezullah avoided giving a direct reply to the conspiracy allegations and said, ‘We do not want to give political color to this incident. The law will do its job. TVK leaders should first look at their conduct.

CM Stalin’s appeal
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed grief over the incident and appealed to maintain peace. He released a video on social media and advised to avoid rumors and said, ‘Do not spread any wrong rumor or false news about the accident. Everyone should treat responsibly.

On Saturday, there was a stampede during Vijay’s rally in Karur, in which at least 39 people died and dozens of people were admitted to the hospital.

CBI inquiry demands
Annamalai demanded an inquiry from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of this tragedy. However, he clarified that he was not directly accusing Vijay. He said that the state police had completely failed in mob management, while there was a warning of potential danger already.

He said, ‘The DGP claimed that 500 policemen were deployed, but less than 100 appeared on the road. The permission was given in a narrow street, where the ambulance could not even go. The police should think a hundred times before giving such permission.

Question on accountability and negligence
The BJP leader also directly targeted the officials. He said, ‘Responsible officials should be suspended. Only the CBI investigation can bring out the truth. Annamalai alleged that the mob management in Tamil Nadu is becoming a problem repeatedly and for this the negligence of the ruling DMK government is responsible.

Prime Minister and Chief Minister’s response
Condoling the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Rs 2-2 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 thousand to the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). The PMO posted on X, ‘The unfortunate incident during the political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu is very sad.’

At the same time, Chief Minister MK Stalin has constituted an inquiry commission under the chairmanship of Madras High Court retired Judge Aruna Jagadisin to investigate the incident.

Petition in High Court
Meanwhile, BJP councilor Uma Anand also filed a petition demanding a CBI inquiry into the case. However, Justice N. of Madras High Court. Senthilkumar denied the hearing and said that the matter falls under the category of PIL (PIL).

My condolences are with those families who have lost their loved ones. I wish to provide strength to them in this difficult time. I pray for the early health of all the injured.”

Chief Minister Stalin said that ‘information from Karur is worrisome’. Stalin can go to Karur on Sunday. He said that Health Minister Ma Subramaniam and District Magistrate advised to provide all possible help. He has also asked Minister Anubil Mahesh to go to Karur to provide assistance. Minister, top administrative and police officers have reached Karur on the information of the incident.

Chief Minister Stalin said that he has instructed the top police officers to take appropriate steps to restore normal conditions in Karur. Stalin appealed to the general public to cooperate with doctors and police in Karur.
