Smart Prepaid Meter: Veteran businessman Gautam Adani’s company Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has received the contract for Argentina’s first LNG export project. After which the company has played another big bet. Adani Group company Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) is now going to install smart prepaid meters in Uttar Pradesh and other states.

3 thousand crore bet
Actually, Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) has signed an agreement to buy Indian smart meter company IntelliSmart Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. for Rs 3,050 crore. Under this deal, Adani Company will acquire the entire 100 percent stake of IntelliSmart. However, some necessary regulatory approvals are yet to be received before this deal can be completed.

Smart meters will be installed in these states including Uttar Pradesh
IntelliSmart is a partner company of National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). This company is going to install smart prepaid meters in lakhs of houses in Uttar Pradesh. These smart prepaid meters will be installed not only in UP but also in states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Assam. The purpose of installing these meters is to improve the billing system of electricity distribution companies across the country and to reduce electricity theft and losses. With this, it is also easy to keep a real-time monitor on electricity consumption through smart meter.

Smart meter business will be big
After taking over AESL’s IntelliSmart infrastructure, the company’s smart meter business will become much bigger. Including the already existing and newly connected smart meters with the company, the total number will exceed 4.7 crore. With this, Adani Energy will become the largest smart meter company in the country. This deal is being considered a major step for Adani Energy to expand beyond its traditional transmission business into technology-based energy services. The company says that this will increase operational efficiency and will also reduce maintenance costs due to large-scale work.
