Taking an important step towards strengthening the regional infrastructure in Telangana, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy met Defense Minister Rajnath Singh at Dutva Bhawan in New Delhi on Monday (June 22, 2026). He urged for developing better facilities like cargo, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) and hangars at Adilabad airport. Along with this, he demanded early approval for an important defense research project in Mahabubnagar.

During this high-level discussion, Chief Minister Reddy expressed his gratitude to the Union Minister for transferring the defense land required for the prestigious Gandhi Sarovar Project. Describing Adilabad Airport as the top priority of the state administration, Reddy assured full cooperation from the Telangana government regarding land acquisition and utility transfer. He stressed the strategic importance of the airport for national integrity and said that it is currently being developed under the supervision of the Indian Air Force.

What request did Reddy make to Rajnath Singh??

Taking forward the vision of the aviation hub, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy requested the Central Government’s cooperation in setting up a cargo terminal, MRO facilities and hangars along with an Indian Air Force terminal and a proposed civil aviation terminal for passenger convenience.

Reddy said many popular global airlines are looking for suitable locations for their hangar operations, one reason being the recent geopolitical and business developments in Central Asia. He strongly urged Singh to take advantage of the suitable geographical location of Adilabad for this purpose.

DRDL Demand to speed up the approval process for the project

Further, the Chief Minister urged the Defense Minister to expedite the approval process for a critical defense facility, especially the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) or Defense Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) project at Devarakadra in Mahabubnagar district, which has already been selected for setting up.

The state delegation accompanying the Chief Minister included Special Secretary, Roads and Buildings Department, Vikas Raj, Principal Secretary KS Srinivas Raju, Secretary Manik Raj and Special Secretary Coordination Adwait Kumar Singh, which reflects the administration’s serious commitment towards these strategic infrastructure and defense cooperation.

This strategic meeting highlights the proactive approach of the State Government to attract global aviation investments in Telangana and improve the national defense infrastructure. By proposing Adilabad as a major hub for MRO operations, the state aims to generate huge employment opportunities. The proposed defense research project at Devarakadara will further strengthen the region’s position as a significant contributor to the indigenous defense manufacturing ecosystem.
