Chemicals are added to give the oil a mustard-like colour, while a separate essence is added to change its smell. Although doctors say that every oil is not harmful, use of pure ghee, mustard oil and extra virgin olive oil in limited quantities is considered beneficial for the body. How to know whether oil is real or fake sitting at home

The Food and Drug Administration Department has given some easy home methods to identify adulterated oil. If a white layer starts forming below the mustard oil after keeping it in the refrigerator for some time, then it may be adulterated with palm oil. Pure mustard oil generally remains liquid even in cold. If color starts coming out after rubbing a few drops of oil on the hand, then it should be understood that synthetic color has been mixed in it. Whereas the smell of real mustard oil is strong and when heated, a slight burning sensation is felt in the eyes.
