At least seven people died and more than 150 were injured in an earthquake of magnitude 6.3 that occurred in Afghanistan on Sunday night. Mazar-e-Sharif was also damaged in this earthquake. According to USGS, the earthquake was at a depth of about 28 km near the holy shrine.

Health department spokesperson Sameem Joyanda told news agency Reuters that till this morning, seven people have been reported dead, while 150 people have been reported injured. The injured have been transferred to health centres. He said that the number of dead is based on the reports received from the hospital till Monday morning.

Haji Zaid, a spokesman for Afghanistan’s Balkh province, told Reuters that part of Mazar-e-Sharif was also damaged by the earthquake.

USGS pager system issued alert

The USGS has issued an Orange Alert in its pager system, an automated system that generates information about the impact of an earthquake. The pager indicated that large numbers of casualties were likely and the disaster was potentially widespread.

When did earthquakes occur?

According to the Indian agency National Center for Seismology (NCS), the first earthquake occurred at 20:40:52 on the night of Sunday (November 2, 2026), whose intensity was measured at 3.9 on the Richter scale. Within five hours, a second earthquake occurred in the Hindu Kush area, whose intensity was measured at 6.3 on the Richter scale.
Earthquakes are common in Afghanistan, especially near the Hindu Kush mountain range, where the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates meet. After decades of war, Afghanistan is struggling with many crises, including widespread poverty, severe drought and incidents of millions of Afghans being sent home by neighboring countries Pakistan and Iran.

Also read- Earth trembled again in Afghanistan, terrible earthquake occurred twice in 5 hours; The intensity was 6.3 on the Richter scale.

The first round of talks was held between Pakistan and Afghanistan on Saturday (October 18, 2025) in Doha, the capital of Qatar, in which both the countries agreed not to attack each other’s military bases and residential areas. Also, according to the Taliban government of Afghanistan, both the countries have decided that the country will not provide any help to the terrorists working against Pakistan and this has been Afghanistan’s stand for years.

Now the next round of talks between the two countries will be held in Türkiye’s capital Istanbul on October 25. Let us tell you that the talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which started at 3 pm on Saturday in Doha, ended at 11:30 pm, after which the first statement came from Qatar. Qatar said that through the mediation of it and Turkey, both the countries have agreed to the ceasefire.

Pakistani Defense Minister agreed

After this, Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif gave a statement after the first round of talks that a ceasefire agreement has been reached between Pakistan and Afghanistan and terrorist activities from Afghanistan on Pakistani soil will be stopped immediately. Both neighboring countries will respect each other’s land and sovereignty.

After this statement, Afghanistan government spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid issued a statement saying that in the first round of talks, Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed not to attack military bases and residential areas. It has also been decided that both the countries will not support those organizations which attack Pakistan.

Afghanistan government issued statement

However, while clarifying his statement, Zabiullah Mujahid briefly wrote on ‘X’, ‘His statement of not supporting organizations attacking Pakistan is not a part of any formal or joint declaration, but is the old stand of the Taliban government of Afghanistan and it has only been agreed between the two sides in Doha that no action will be taken against each other, which is the most important point of the agreement.’

Who was present in the meeting?

Taliban government’s Defense Minister Mullah Yaqoob and Afghan intelligence department GDI chief Mullah Abdul Haq Wasiq were present from the Afghan side in the first round of talks held in Doha on Saturday. Also present from Pakistan’s side were Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif and chief of Pakistani intelligence agency ISI Asim Malik. In such a situation, it has to be seen what comes out in the next round of talks to be held in Istanbul and whether both the countries are able to establish peace on the basis of agreement in the next 6 days.

Tension on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan is once again on the rise. The ongoing clashes between the two countries have not only shaken the border areas but have also destabilized the security situation of South Asia. In the latest development, a 48-hour ceasefire has been declared after the conflict between the two armies in the Spin Boldak area, but before this ceasefire, some videos went viral on social media, which heated up the entire controversy.

Just hours before the ceasefire, some videos surfaced on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), purportedly showing Taliban forces capturing Pakistani tanks. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed that his fighters responded to Pakistani shelling, killing several Pakistani soldiers, destroying some military installations and capturing Pakistani tanks and weapons. It has been claimed that the tanks shown in the video were actually Soviet-era T-55 tanks, which are part of the Afghan Army’s old stock and have been in use since the 1980s. People are considering the viral video as AI generated. For this reason ABP News does not verify the video. On the other hand, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif completely denied this claim and said, “We do not have the tanks that they are calling ours.” Perhaps he might have bought those tanks from a scrap dealer.

Background of border skirmishes

These clashes started when Pakistan’s security positions were attacked from the Afghan border. Pakistan responded with air strikes, after which the situation became more serious. Spin Boldak, which is located in the south-east of Afghanistan, has always been a disputed area between the two countries. Dozens of soldiers and civilians were killed in fighting last weekend. A statement issued by Afghanistan said that their forces killed 58 Pakistani soldiers in operations conducted overnight, while according to Pakistan the number was only 23. Pakistani officials, in retaliation, claimed that they had captured 19 border posts of Afghanistan.

Ceasefire and diplomatic efforts

After continuous clashes, both the countries signed a 48-hour ceasefire agreement. Islamabad said that this ceasefire is an opportunity for constructive dialogue and finding a peace solution. At the same time, Afghanistan also accepted the ceasefire, but it repeated the allegation on Pakistan that Islamabad had first started the clash by carrying out air strikes. According to the report of news agency AFP, local residents of Spin Boldak are now gradually returning to their homes from where they had fled during the fighting. However, the situation on the border still remains tense and there are reports of heavy military deployment from both sides.

Foreign Minister of Taliban government of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Muttaki is currently on a tour of India. Meanwhile, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi has given a big statement regarding India’s relations with Taliban. Owaisi said that India should not be limited to just talks, but should establish full diplomatic relations with Kabul.

Owaisi said in an interview that India should increase contacts with Taliban to protect its national security and political interests. He said, ‘I had said in Parliament in 2016 that Taliban will return to power, hence talks with them are necessary. Today they have a government and their foreign minister is in India, while Pakistan is bombing them. Do you see how this is going? We should maintain full diplomatic relations with Kabul. Owaisi says that India’s presence in Afghanistan is important not only from diplomatic but also from security and geopolitical point of view.

India has not directly recognized the Taliban government since their occupation of Afghanistan. However, India is maintaining limited talks with the Taliban regime in the name of humanitarian assistance. After the Taliban capture of Kabul in 2021, India closed its embassy, but later sent a technical team there, which is playing a role in humanitarian aid and communication. India is cautious that its national security should not be affected by the activity of terrorist groups in Afghanistan, but Owaisi believes that maintaining distance will reduce India’s influence and increase the dominance of China and Pakistan in the region.

India benefits from Chabahar Port: Owaisi

Owaisi also mentioned Iran’s Chabahar port in his statement. He said that India should develop a new route from this port to Afghanistan. According to Owaisi, Chabahar is strategically important for India. If India builds a direct route from there to Afghanistan, its position will be stronger than China and Pakistan. India is already investing in developing Chabahar Port to reduce its dependence on Pakistan’s Karachi Port. Owaisi says that if India increases economic and strategic partnership with Afghanistan, it will strengthen its position in the entire region.

Rethinking India’s role in Afghanistan

After the withdrawal of Taliban in Afghanistan, India’s policy has been wait and watch. India has not given official recognition to the Taliban regime in any form, but has maintained contacts through humanitarian assistance, food aid and health programmes. However, experts say that maintaining complete distance from Taliban may cause loss to India. At the same time, leaders like Owaisi are arguing that India should re-establish its influence in Afghanistan.

Deteriorating relations between Taliban and Pakistan

Owaisi also commented on the relations between Pakistan and Taliban in his statement. He said that Pakistan, which was once a supporter of Taliban, is now bombing them. This shows that there are no permanent friends or enemies in international politics. India should take advantage of this situation and strengthen its presence in Kabul. This statement has come at a time when tension is at its peak regarding the Durand Line on the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan, and the Taliban has intensified attacks on Pakistani posts.

The first reaction from Afghanistan has come on the airstrike carried out by the Pakistani Army on Thursday (October 09, 2025) in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, in which the Afghan Defense Ministry, issuing a statement on behalf of Afghan Defense Minister Mullah Yaqoob, informed that once again Pakistan has violated Afghanistan’s airspace.

Pakistani forces attacked a civilian market in Margha area of Paktika province near the Durand Line and violated the airspace over the capital Kabul. At 11 pm Indian time, the Pakistani Army carried out two low-intensity air strikes on Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan.

Noor Wali Mehsud suspected to be alive

According to the information, a Land Cruiser car was targeted outside the Imperial Hotel on Abdullah Haq Square in Kabul, in which Pakistan suspected that Tehreek-e-Taliban chief Noor Wali Mehsud could be there, because Noor Wali Mehsud also uses a black Land Cruiser car fitted with a jammer, the photo of which was shared by sources of Pakistani intelligence agency ISI with the Pakistani media.

Apart from Kabul, the Pakistani Army on Thursday also carried out an airstrike in the market located in Margha area of Barmal district of Paktika province, in which more than 35 slums were turned into debris and only ruined settlements and debris were visible everywhere in the entire area.

Afghanistan’s Defense Minister gave a strong reaction

However, on the Pakistani airstrike, while Tehreek-e-Taliban released the audio of Noor Wali Mehsud and claimed that Noor Wali Mehsud is alive, on the other hand, Afghanistan’s Defense Minister Mullah Yakub issued a strong reaction and said that now the Pakistani Army will have to bear the consequences of this attack.

Pakistani Army spokesperson Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary held a press conference in Peshawar on Friday (October 10, 2025) and said that the Pakistani Army will take every step to deal with the terrorists. However, the Pakistani Army spokesperson did not give any reply on the airstrike on Afghanistan.

The Taliban’s Higher Education Minister has claimed that ‘Charles Darwin’ has been removed from universities in Afghanistan. He says that now the country’s higher education system has become completely ‘Islamic’. Minister Neda Mohammad Nadeem said this at an international conference in Herat.

This conference was organized on improving the quality of higher education. He said that such courses were taught in universities during the previous governments, which were against Islamic values and spread moral corruption.

Intention to make students radical

The Ministry of Higher Education said in its statement that a total of 29 scholars and researchers from India, Pakistan, Britain, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Iran, Turkish and Uzbekistan along with public and private universities took part in this conference.

At this conference, some academics and researchers said that the Taliban wants to remove modern knowledge and scientific logic in the education system and bring subjects related to their ideology. He warned that the Taliban is doing this with the intention of making students radical.

What is Darwin’s ‘principle of evolution’?

The 19th century British scientist Charles Darwin is the most famous for the principle of development through Natural Selection. His theory says that all animals have been the same ancestor and gradually changes with time, which created new species. This idea of Darwin is still considered to be the foundation of modern biology.

Let us know that last month, the Taliban government changed some subjects to be taught in universities and higher education institutions and announced to include Sharia principles and its policies. According to the order of the Ministry, a total of 18 subjects were removed from the syllabus, which were considered ‘against Sharia and System Policy’. The ministry said that 201 other subjects were identified as ‘relative problems’ and will continue to be taught in a revised form.

In today’s era, the whole world is running forward in the race to be digital. However, there is also a country where the government is trying to escape reverse in this matter. The latest case is from Afghanistan, where Fiber Optic Internet i.e. Wi-Fi services have been banned in the northern Balkh province on the orders of Hibetullah Akhundzada, the supreme leader of the Taliban rule. This decision has been taken with the aim of preventing immorality. After this order, now government offices, private sector, public institutions and home Wi-Fi have been deprived of Wi-Fi internet in Balkh province.

The Taliban government has clarified that despite this decision, mobile internet services will still be active. Provincial spokesperson Haji Ataullah Zaid said that after the order of leader Akhundzada, there is no longer a cable internet facility. He further informed that an alternative system will be developed within the country to meet the needs.

First major digital ban after August 2021
After coming to power in August 2021, the Taliban imposed several social and cultural sanctions, but this is the first time that internet services have been directly banned by this level. This step will cause huge losses to education and business institutions. Domestic and international communication will be affected. There may be a situation of dissatisfaction and digital isolation among Afghan citizens.

The purpose and criticism of the restriction
The Taliban argues that this step has been taken to prevent immoral activities and protect Islamic values, but critics say this ban will make Afghanistan more isolated from the world. Digital crisis will deepen in areas related to education, health and business. This will limit access to freedom and information of public expression.

In South Asia, China and Pakistan together are preparing to do a new diplomatic game. China and Pakistan together are preparing to create such a new faction in this region, which can replace the South Asian countries’ organization SAARC. If China is the brain behind this project, then Pakistan and Bangladesh are supporting it.

According to reports, Pakistan and Bangladesh were also involved in a meeting held on June 19 in Kunming, China. In this meeting, the entire plan was prepared regarding the new group. The meeting was held after a tripartite meeting held in May, which talked about expanding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and increasing regional cooperation in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan.
SAARC organization is inactive since 2016

The South Asian Regional Cooperation Organization (SAARC) was established on 8 December 1985 in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. It had 7 founding members, while Afghanistan joined the group in 2007. However, this organization is inactive since 2016. Its last meeting was held in Kathmandu in the year 2014. The meeting of the 19th SAARC Summit was to be held in Islamabad in November 2016, but after the Uri attack, India had booked Pakistan. 17 Indian soldiers were martyred in this attack.

China and Pakistan agree to create a new group

Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Bhutan also withdrew their names from the summit citing concerns of terrorism and regional intervention. The conference was canceled and after that it has not been scheduled again. The Express Tribune report states that both Pakistan and China are convinced that a new organization is a demand for time for regional integration and contact.

Bangladesh rejected the plan of new faction

The report said that SAARC members, including Sri Lanka, Maldives and Afghanistan, are expected to be part of the new group. However, Bangladesh has rejected the idea of any emerging coalition between Dhaka, Beijing and Islamabad and said that there was no ‘political’ meeting between the three countries in China’s Kunming.

Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Advisor M Tauheed Hussain said after a meeting held on June 19 in Kunming that we are not going to form a new alliance. He said, ‘This was an official level meeting, not political level. In this, “there was no talk about the formation of an alliance.”

What does India want?

The report quoted diplomatic sources as saying that India will be invited to join the new group, but ‘given its different interests, it is unlikely to give positive response from it.’ Whereas India has tried to use SAARC for better regional cooperation and contact.

Also read- Rafael, who caused havoc in Pakistan in Operation Sindoor, increased fighter jet; This country will also deal with France
