The situation is tense between Pakistan and Afghanistan. After heavy firing and bombing, both sides agreed to a 48-hour ceasefire on October 15 (Wednesday). Now the ceasefire has been extended between both the sides. Formal talks can take place between the two countries in Doha. Earlier on Friday, Taliban said that Iran is ready to mediate between Pakistan and Taliban. This information has been given in the Taliban statement quoting Iran’s South Asia affairs official Reza Bahrami, who was present in the meeting held in Kabul.

Earlier, news agency Xinhua, quoting government sources of Afghan media, had told that Afghanistan and Pakistan can hold talks in Doha, the capital of Qatar. Afghan media sources were quoted as saying that an Afghan delegation may go to Doha for talks with the Pakistani side.

Iran’s proposal to become a mediator
According to a Taliban spokesman, Bahrami told Taliban Refugee Minister Abdul Kabir that Iran was ready to help resolve the dispute between Islamabad and Kabul. He also said that Iran is planning to issue 2,00,000 work visas for Afghan citizens.

Defense ministers and intelligence officials of both sides will hold formal talks in Doha on Saturday 17 October. pic.twitter.com/0UFp0ahTi2

Discussion on refugee and regional issues
In the meeting, both sides also discussed refugees and recent regional events. Taliban said that Iranian officials can come to Kabul so that economic and diplomatic relations can be strengthened. Abdul Kabir said he would present a plan to Tehran to solve the problems of Afghan returnees to Iran.

Violence and increasing tense situation on the border
This development has come to light amid the most dangerous border clashes between the Taliban and Pakistani security forces last week. According to the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), at least 37 people were killed and 425 injured in these clashes. According to sources, a Taliban delegation will go to Doha for talks to stop the increasing violence.

After the clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan in the last 24 hours, it has been agreed to implement a temporary ceasefire for 48 hours on Wednesday (15 October 2025). Pakistan’s army claimed that it foiled several Taliban attacks on the Afghanistan border and killed more than 40 attackers. Afghanistan claims that it destroyed many Pakistani military bases in Spin Boldak on the Durand Line and captured their soldiers. Afghanistan said that 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed in its operation.

Four places were targeted in Spin Boldak area: PAK

The Pakistani army said that the Afghan Taliban attacked four places in the Spin Boldak area of Balochistan province, which was foiled by the Pakistani army. “While foiling the attack, 15-20 Afghan Taliban were killed and many were injured,” the army said.

The army has said that the situation is changing rapidly as there are reports of more gatherings at Fitna Al Khawarij and Afghan Taliban bases. Fitna al-Khawarij is the term used by Pakistani authorities to refer to terrorists of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Pak-Afghan friendship gate destroyed

The army said the attack was carried out in divided villages in the area and that the Taliban showed no respect for the civilian population. “The Afghan Taliban also destroyed the Pak-Afghan Friendship Gate located on their side, which clearly shows their mentality regarding mutual trade and accessibility rights of divided tribes,” it said.

The Pakistani Army said that the attack in Spin Boldak of PoK was not an isolated incident, as on the night of October 14, the Afghan Taliban and TTP had tried to attack Pakistani border posts in Kurram sector of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

He said, “These attacks were effectively foiled, causing heavy losses to Afghan positions.” “In the effective but justified response of Pakistani troops, eight posts including six tanks were destroyed and 25-30 Afghan Taliban and TTP fighters are feared dead.”

‘Pakistan requested for ceasefire’

According to the security forces of Afghanistan, Taliban also took control of the gate of Spin Boldak which was occupied by Pakistani Army by conducting an operation in the early hours of Wednesday. Taliban spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid posted on Twitter, “After a request from Pakistan, the ceasefire between the two countries came into effect from 5:30 pm on October 15, 2025. We have also instructed all our security forces to follow the ceasefire and not violate it until there is no action from the front.”

Afghanistan’s drone attack in Peshawar

Pakistan had carried out air strikes in Jadhani Kabul and Spin Boldak on Wednesday evening, in response to which Afghanistan launched a drone attack in Peshawar. In this attack, a house was targeted from where intelligence activities were being carried out. According to the Afghan government, their security forces seized a batch of light and heavy weapons including tanks and brought them to the Afghan border.
