After the recent conflict with Afghanistan, Pakistan’s domestic market has become bad. Tomato prices have skyrocketed in Pakistan. The price of tomato has reached Rs 700 per kg in many big cities of the country including Lahore-Karachi. Till a few weeks ago, the price of tomato, which is one of the most essential ingredients in the kitchen, was Rs 100 per kg in Pakistan, but now after increasing several times, the price of tomato has started touching the sky. Due to manifold increase in the prices of tomatoes, the common people of Pakistan have been affected the most. The people of the country are very worried about this. At the same time, along with many local reasons, the conflict with Afghanistan is also being said to be behind this increase.

According to the report of Pakistan’s Sama TV, many parts of the country are flood affected, due to which the crops grown in the fields have been completely destroyed. Along with this, due to disruption in trade and shortage in supply, tomato prices have started skyrocketing in Pakistan. Actually, Iranian tomatoes are coming in the Pakistani market, but due to the suspension of Afghanistan exports after increased border tension and military conflict, there has been a huge increase in the prices of many vegetables including tomatoes across Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Punjab province most affected

According to the report, the maximum impact of the rise in the prices of tomatoes in Pakistan has been seen in Jhelum and Gujranwala of Punjab province. While in Jhelum the price of tomato has reached Rs 700 per kg, in Gujranwala it is being sold at Rs 575 per kg.

Talking about other areas of Pakistan, the price of tomato in Multan is Rs 450 per kg, in Faisalabad it has reached Rs 500 per kg, while according to the official rate list of the administration, the maximum price of tomato is Rs 170 per kg. Whereas in Lahore, the price of tomato under the government rate is Rs 175, but in the markets tomatoes are being sold at Rs 400 per kg.

The recent violence that broke out on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan is considered to be the most serious clash between the two neighboring countries. A major reason behind the conflict between these two countries is the presence of notorious terrorist leader Noor Wali Mehsud in Afghanistan, whom Islamabad accuses of leading almost daily attacks in his country.

Although a temporary ceasefire came into effect between the two countries on Wednesday (October 15, 2025), Pakistan’s resentment still remains over the presence of Noor Wali Mehsud in Afghanistan, who is taking shelter there along with his top associates.

Noor Wali Mehsud was targeted in Kabul

Last week, an airstrike in Kabul targeted an armored Toyota Land Cruiser, which Pakistani security officials said was carrying Noor Wali Mehsud. However, terrorists and Pakistani officials believe that he survived the attack. After this the organization released an audio, which is allegedly being said to be of Mehsud.

Pakistan has not officially taken responsibility for this air attack. This attack is considered to be the first airstrike in Kabul after the US targeted Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri in 2022.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s Taliban regime has denied allegations of harboring Pakistani terrorists and instead accused Islamabad of harboring a local faction of Islamic State, its main armed rival.

Noor Wali Mehsud took command of TTP in 2018

Noor Wali Mehsud took command of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in the year 2018. Before Mehsud, three previous leaders of the organization were killed in American drone strikes. By then, Pakistani Army operations had driven this organization from its bases and pushed it towards Afghanistan.

After taking over the command, Mehsud not only revived the organization but also changed its strategy and united the factions fighting among themselves with diplomatic skills. Mehsud is trained as a religious scholar, who also took command on the ideological front.

Tension on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan is once again on the rise. The ongoing clashes between the two countries have not only shaken the border areas but have also destabilized the security situation of South Asia. In the latest development, a 48-hour ceasefire has been declared after the conflict between the two armies in the Spin Boldak area, but before this ceasefire, some videos went viral on social media, which heated up the entire controversy.

Just hours before the ceasefire, some videos surfaced on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), purportedly showing Taliban forces capturing Pakistani tanks. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed that his fighters responded to Pakistani shelling, killing several Pakistani soldiers, destroying some military installations and capturing Pakistani tanks and weapons. It has been claimed that the tanks shown in the video were actually Soviet-era T-55 tanks, which are part of the Afghan Army’s old stock and have been in use since the 1980s. People are considering the viral video as AI generated. For this reason ABP News does not verify the video. On the other hand, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif completely denied this claim and said, “We do not have the tanks that they are calling ours.” Perhaps he might have bought those tanks from a scrap dealer.

Background of border skirmishes

These clashes started when Pakistan’s security positions were attacked from the Afghan border. Pakistan responded with air strikes, after which the situation became more serious. Spin Boldak, which is located in the south-east of Afghanistan, has always been a disputed area between the two countries. Dozens of soldiers and civilians were killed in fighting last weekend. A statement issued by Afghanistan said that their forces killed 58 Pakistani soldiers in operations conducted overnight, while according to Pakistan the number was only 23. Pakistani officials, in retaliation, claimed that they had captured 19 border posts of Afghanistan.

Ceasefire and diplomatic efforts

After continuous clashes, both the countries signed a 48-hour ceasefire agreement. Islamabad said that this ceasefire is an opportunity for constructive dialogue and finding a peace solution. At the same time, Afghanistan also accepted the ceasefire, but it repeated the allegation on Pakistan that Islamabad had first started the clash by carrying out air strikes. According to the report of news agency AFP, local residents of Spin Boldak are now gradually returning to their homes from where they had fled during the fighting. However, the situation on the border still remains tense and there are reports of heavy military deployment from both sides.

Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have been tense for a long time. In recent times, this tension has once again turned into violent clashes. Pakistan fired missiles on Afghan territory last Thursday (9 October 2025), in response to which the Afghan army retaliated in Baharampur area of Pakistan on Saturday (11 October 2025) night. Many Pakistani soldiers were killed in this encounter and Afghan forces captured some posts. The Afghan army has also captured some Pakistani soldiers. This entire incident happened near the Durand Line, which is the main cause of dispute between the two countries.

The Durand Line is an approximately two thousand six hundred and forty kilometer long border, which was created in 1893 during the British rule. Pakistan considers it an international border, but Afghanistan does not accept it. The Afghan side believes that this border artificially divides the Pashtun areas. This is the reason why incidents of conflict and firing occur again and again in this area.

military position of pakistan

According to the Global Firepower 2025 report, Pakistan is the twelfth most powerful army in the world. The country has invested about two and a half percent of its total economy i.e. more than ten billion dollars in defense expenditure. Pakistan has 6,40,000+ trained soldiers, 2627 tanks, 328 fighter aircraft. Pakistani Navy extends to the Arabian Sea. Its help gives it an edge in maritime security. Pakistan’s army is technologically modern and its strategic partnership with China further enhances its power.

Pakistan’s nuclear and missile capabilities

According to reports, Pakistan spends billions of dollars every year on its nuclear program. The country has ballistic missiles with different ranges, which were manufactured with the technical help of China. For this reason, Pakistan also has the capability to launch a second attack i.e. second strike capability, which further strengthens its defense policy.

military situation in afghanistan

Afghanistan’s military capability is quite limited compared to Pakistan. It has been ranked 118th in the list of Global Firepower. After the fall of the US-backed government in 2021, the Taliban took control of the country. The Taliban has retained some old military resources, but it has neither a modern air force nor navy. Most military tactics are based on guerrilla warfare, which proves useful in mountainous areas.

Strengths and limitations of Afghan forces

At present Afghanistan has about eighty thousand active soldiers and 30 thousand paramilitary forces. The country has a limited number of tanks, armored vehicles and artillery. Some old fighter planes and helicopters are also used, but their maintenance is difficult. Lack of missile technology and modern weapons makes its defense capability weak.

Comparison of military power between Pakistan and Afghanistan

Comparing the military power between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the difference is clearly visible. Pakistan has nuclear weapons, modern air force and a large number of trained soldiers, while Afghanistan is dependent on limited resources. Pakistan has allies like China and Türkiye, whereas Afghanistan has no formal allies. The biggest strength of the Afghan side is its geographical position and its long-standing war strategy in the mountainous areas.

The ongoing conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan started again yesterday around 7:30 pm Indian time after a pause of 60 hours. While according to the information, there was firing between the armies of the two countries and Pakistan targeted 6 posts of Afghanistan and the tanks deployed there with artillery, anti-tank missiles and drones, then the video of a drone strike on a post of Pakistan from the Afghanistan side was also released by Taliban’s ally media.

The first attack on Afghanistan was carried out by the Pakistani Army at 7:47 pm Indian time by striking the Afghan Army post located on the Paktika-Kurram border with artillery. After this, in the second attack, the Pakistani Army targeted the Afghan post located on the Paktika-Kurram border. After this, at around 11 pm, the Pakistani Army attacked the post of the Third Afghan Army located on Paktika Kurram border, due to which there was smoke everywhere.

Pakistani army attacked Afghanistan with drone

After this, the Pakistani Army started carrying out drone strikes on the Afghan Army, in which the Pakistani Army first targeted the tanks of the Afghan Army moving in Paktika with drones, after which the Pakistani Army started targeting the Pakistani tanks located on other borders. In the picture shared by the Pakistani Army to the Pakistani media, it was claimed that the tank present at the Shamshad post of the Afghan Army located on the small hill on the Nangarhar-Khyber border was attacked by the Pakistani Army with an anti-tank missile.

After this, the Pakistani Army also attacked the Naresagar post of the Afghan Army located on the Khost Khosht Ghulam Khan-North Waziristan Miranshah border with the help of drones. Amidst all this, a drone video of Afghan Army destroying Pakistani post was shared from Afghan Taliban’s Al Mirsad channel.

Video surfaced

Also, in the video from Afghanistan, it is seen that Afghan army vehicles were seen moving towards Ghulam Shah Border located in Khost and Kandahar-Chaman Spin Boldak Border in response to the sudden attack by Pakistan. During the Pakistani attacks, an unknown drone was also seen flying in the sky of the capital Kabul. According to current information, the Afghan Army has asked people living in residential areas located on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border to leave their houses and go to safe places.

Pakistan fired missiles on tanks, Afghanistan also did drone strike on PAK post"/>

According to Afghan media since last night, the armies of both the countries are also firing at each other. Let us tell you that on last Saturday, at 9.23 pm Indian time, the Afghan army had suddenly attacked 7 borders to avenge the air strikes in Kabul and Paktika on Pakistan, in which according to Afghanistan, 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed, along with destroying 40 Pakistani posts, 25 were captured, although Pakistan had accepted the death of only 23 soldiers and Pakistan had claimed that in retaliation The Afghan army had suffered significant losses.

Afghanistan responded to the attack

After causing harm to Pakistan, Afghanistan had announced ceasefire on Sunday midnight at 1 am Indian time on the call of Saudi Arabia and Qatar, but the Pakistani army started attacking the Afghan army after the ceasefire which continued till 7 am in the morning, after which the Afghan government claimed that there is peace on the border.

But after this, on Monday, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry had expressed strong anger over the Afghan government’s statement on the firing on unarmed protesters and massacre of more than 280 people by Pakistani security forces in Muridke, Punjab province of Pakistan, and then yesterday the Pakistani army again attacked the Afghan army.

Afghan army snatched weapons from Pakistani army

Let us tell you that after the attack on Pakistan on Saturday, the Afghan Army had snatched the weapons of the Pakistani Army and brought them back to Afghanistan, along with this, 5 soldiers of the Pakistani Army are still hostage with the Afghan Army. In such a situation, there was an atmosphere of celebration in Afghanistan for the last two days and yesterday the Afghan Army had displayed the pants and snatched weapons of the captive soldiers of the Pakistani Army in a celebration organized by the people of Nangarhar for defeating Pakistan in the conflict on Saturday.

Apart from the clash between the army of Pakistan and Afghanistan last night, information about 3 explosions was received at 1.30 am in Mashtung area of Balochistan province of Pakistan, but the reason for this is not yet clear. Also, neither the Afghan government or the army nor the Pakistani army or government has given any official statement yet on the clash with Pakistan that started at 7:47 pm last night. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see whether Pakistan attacked the military bases of Afghanistan to save its reputation or for some other reason.

There was a fierce clash on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan on Saturday night, in which both the countries suffered heavy losses. Pakistan has claimed that it has killed more than 200 Afghan Taliban fighters, while 23 Pakistani soldiers were also killed. Afghanistan says that apart from killing 58 Pakistani soldiers, it has also captured 25 Pakistani army posts.

Operation stopped after intervention of Saudi Arabia and Qatar
Afghan government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the operation against Pakistan was halted at 12 midnight on Saturday when Saudi Arabia and Qatar intervened. He said, ‘The situation on all the borders of Afghanistan is completely under control and illegal activities have been stopped to a great extent.’

Claim of capturing 25 Pakistani posts
Mujahid said in the press conference that Afghan forces have captured 25 military posts of Pakistan. Earlier this week, Afghan officials accused Pakistan of bombing the capital Kabul and a market in the eastern part of the country, although Pakistan has not acknowledged these incidents.

‘We want peace, but if needed there are options’
Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki, who is visiting India, said that Afghanistan wants peace in the region. He said, ‘Our doors are open for talks. We have brought peace in Afghanistan and are trying for peace in the entire region. We want a peaceful resolution to the situation, but if peace efforts are not successful, we also have other options.

Pakistan claimed to have captured 19 Afghan posts
According to information received quoting Pakistani security sources, Pakistan has captured 19 Afghan military posts and ‘terrorist hideouts’ in retaliation. Pakistan has described these attacks as ‘unprovoked action by Afghan forces’.

Afghanistan’s answer to TTP
Muttaki asked Pakistan to control the problem of increasing extremism in its country. He claimed that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has no bases in Afghanistan.

Statement also given regarding relations with India
When Muttaqi was asked whether Pakistan intensified the attack because Afghanistan was moving closer to India, he said, ‘Ask this question to Pakistan. We have no problem with anyone. Our heart is big.
