The Taliban government of Afghanistan has made it clear to Pakistan that Kabul will no longer run its foreign policy under any external pressure. Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi openly reacted to Pakistan’s uneasiness over the growing closeness with India and said that Afghanistan builds relations based on its interests and not according to the preferences of any neighbor.

Muttaqi said in a meeting of political analysts that Pakistan should not have a problem with the fact that Afghanistan is strengthening relations with India. He said that if Pakistan itself can maintain diplomatic contacts with India then no one can stop Afghanistan from doing so. Muttaki also said that Pakistan has been trying to control Afghan foreign policy for a long time, but this period is now over.

Sharp comment on Pakistan’s political chaos

The Afghan Foreign Minister also took a dig at the internal situation of Pakistan. He referred to the statement in which Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar had admitted that even for a small decision, permission is required from both the Prime Minister and the Army Chief. Muttaqi quipped that there are so many centers in Pakistan that it is difficult to understand who actually takes the decisions. He said that the effect of this chaos is visible on every decision of Pakistan.

Taliban’s taunt

Muttaki said that Pakistan’s relations with almost every neighboring country are tense and this problem is not limited to Afghanistan. According to him, there is constant conflict between Pakistan’s political parties, religious groups and its own people. The Taliban minister claimed that relations on all other borders of Afghanistan are normal and commercial, while Pakistan is the only neighbor with which tension remains.

Serious allegations on air violation and stopping business

Taliban has made many allegations against Pakistan in recent months. Kabul says that Pakistan violated Afghan airspace several times and arbitrarily closed trade routes along the border. Muttaqi also said that Afghan refugees are being mistreated in Pakistan, which is further worsening the relations between the two countries. Taliban says that they have shown patience, but it would not be right for Pakistan to consider it as weakness.

Amidst the ongoing tension between Afghanistan and Pakistan, the Taliban government has now taken a big decision. The Afghan government has announced to stop trade and transit with Pakistan. Afghanistan’s Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar announced this. He took the decision in a meeting with industrialists and businessmen.

Bardar said in a meeting with traders- “Afghan traders should immediately look for alternative trade routes other than Pakistan.”

Bardar said, “To protect the dignity of the country, trade, industry and the rights of Afghans, the Islamic Emirate has informed our business brothers. In this, the trade routes frequently used by Pakistan have been blocked. At the same time, non-political issues have been used as political tools.”

If you don’t agree, you will have to face difficulties: Ghani
Giving a strict warning to the traders, he said that despite the notice, if any trader imports or exports goods through Pakistan, he will have to face difficulties. If that businessman faces any kind of difficulty, the government will not help that businessman. That is why we are advising to stop trade with Pakistan.

Let us tell you, the Taliban government has taken this tough decision amidst the continuous threats of attack from Pakistan.

Why tension between Pakistan and Afghanistan?

Actually, the reason for the area where clashes have been witnessed between the two countries for some time is a district named Kurram. This was once the area of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). This area is surrounded by high mountains, dense forests and deep valleys. People of Pashtun tribe used to live here. The British created the Duned Line in 1983. This line separated Afghanistan and British India. But the people of Pashtun tribe never accepted this line. They considered it as their area. The British government feared that if these tribes joined Afghanistan, their control would be negligible. Therefore, they created a separate area named FATA, which included Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, North Waziristan and South Waziristan and also 6 frontier regions.

When Pakistan was separated from India, the then Prime Minister Mohammad Ali Jinnah had promised the tribes that we would leave this area as it is. But Pakistan merged FATA into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the year 2018. But Pashtun tribes were against it. The buffer zone FATA created during the time of the British government has now ended, meaning Kurram is now a part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. If there is an attack here, Pakistan considers it an attack on its country. Because of this there is tension between the two countries.

The peace talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan in Türkiye’s capital Istanbul once again ended without any result. The objective of this meeting was to reach a consensus on the ongoing border tension between the two countries and the activities of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), but the talks broke down due to Pakistan’s tactics. According to sources, Pakistan sought permission to enter into Afghan territory and take action against TTP hideouts, to which Kabul expressed strong objection. There was a heated debate between the two sides on this issue and the atmosphere of talks deteriorated.

The Afghan side had assured Pakistan that it would not allow its soil to be used for anti-Pakistan activities. In return, Kabul demanded Islamabad to stop violating its airspace and stop flights of American drones. Initially Pakistan seemed to agree, but after a sudden “unknown call” its stand changed. According to NDTV report, after this call, Pakistan admitted for the first time that it has an agreement to fly drones with a foreign country (hint American), which cannot be canceled.

Afghanistan distanced itself from the meeting

Afghanistan took this revelation seriously and distanced itself from the meeting. This attitude of Pakistan was shocking for both Türkiye and Qatar, who were the mediators of this talk. After this, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif in his statement described Afghanistan as “Pakistan’s pawn” and warned that if Pakistan is attacked, the reply will be given with “fifty percent more force”.

Afghanistan gave a blunt answer

Afghanistan also responded bluntly. Its Home Ministry spokesperson Abdul Matin Kani said, “We do not have nuclear weapons, but Afghans have never bowed before anyone. Which is enough to teach Pakistan a lesson.” Afghan Defense Minister Maulvi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid also said that “TTP is an internal problem of Pakistan. Its members are Pakistani citizens, against whom Afghanistan has no jurisdiction to take action.”

In this way, Pakistan’s ‘dual policy’ has once again come to the fore. While on one hand he talks about peace, on the other hand he continues to make efforts to encroach on the sovereignty of his neighboring country. The breakdown of talks in Istanbul is being considered a major diplomatic blow for the entire South Asia including India, America, Türkiye and Qatar.

Tension continues in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Dr. Mohammad Naeem and Chinese Ambassador Yu Xiaoyong met. Both the leaders discussed the recent Afghan-Pakistan tension situation during the meeting. Bilateral relations between the two countries were also discussed in the meeting.

Dr. Mohammad Naeem, Deputy Foreign Minister in the Government of Afghanistan, said that China and Afghanistan are two historical neighbors and there are many similarities between the two countries.

Along with this, he expressed gratitude for China’s support and Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Naeem has confirmed that the Islamic Emirate is committed to dialogue with all countries on the basis of mutual respect. He also said that Afghanistan’s soil will not be used against any other country.

Amid the recent tension with Pakistan, the Afghan minister hit out that Pakistan has been testing the patience of the Islamic Emirate for the last four years, forcing it to respond. Along with this, he reiterated that the Emirates’ firm stance is that issues should be resolved through dialogue and understanding.

Meanwhile, China’s Ambassador to Afghanistan Yu Xiaoyong said that China wants to strengthen long-term relations with Afghanistan on the basis of mutual respect and values its national sovereignty. He further said that China wants to play a constructive role in resolving differences between Afghanistan and Pakistan and welcomes the mediation efforts of Qatar and Türkiye.

Let us tell you that in the last few days, there has been huge tension on the Afghanistan and Pakistan border. After the death of many people in violent clashes on both sides, a ceasefire agreement was reached between Qatar and Turkey. However, despite the ceasefire, the situation of tension continues.

Afghanistan-Pakistan Relations: The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar visited Kabul last week amid bitterness between Pakistan-Afghanistan’s relationship. During this time, many issues were discussed, but the Taliban showed the neighboring country to cheat on the issue of TTP and security. He rejected the request of Pakistan, which said that TTP terrorists should be strict. Not only this, Siraj Uddin Haqqani, head of Haqqani network, did not participate in any meeting.

The tribune website quoted sources as saying that Pakistan cannot progress in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa or Balochistan without Haqqani’s commitment. However, Pakistan has claimed that the visit of Ishaq Dar has brought great success on bilateral trade and other political issues. At the same time, Haqqani’s attending in the meeting is telling that Pakistan’s disappointment has been found on the issue of TTP.

Why is Haqqani important?

Pakistan and Afghanistan have formed the Joint Coordination Committee (JCC), where a report was presented on TTP and other security issues last month. However, unless the Haqqani decision is not part of the process, serious consequences can be expected.

A source in the Afghanistan capital told the express tribune, “If Islamabad has not felt any change on security basis, we are afraid that any attack from Pakistan across the border may turn water on all its efforts.”

TTP remains throat for Pakistan

The visit of External Affairs Minister Ishaq Dar took place at a time when a possible war situation arose between the two countries about two months ago, as a dispute arose due to the construction of a new outpost on the Tarkham border by Afghanistan. Pakistan considered it a violation of its sovereignty.

The main problem between the two countries is to use the Afghan land against Pakistan on behalf of the banned TTP and its colleagues. The complexity of the problem is that TTP is appointing more and more Afghan citizens for terrorist attacks. Some Afghan Afghan Afghans involved in the terrorist attacks were close to the Taliban leaders. Pakistan told the Taliban government that the scope of cooperation will be less without the solution of the TTP problem.
