To strengthen the safety of teen users on its platform, OpenAI has launched an age prediction system on ChatGPT. This system will find out the age of the user on the basis of different signals. If it detects that a user is under 18 years of age, it will apply additional safety settings so that the user can get a more safe experience according to his age. How to know the age?

ChatGPT says it will use a special age prediction model, which will estimate the user’s age based on a combination of behavioral and account-level signals. In this, the company will see how long an account has been running, what is its activity time, what is the usage pattern of the account and what is the age stated by the user at the time of sign-up. The company says that it can use different indicators to find out whether an account belongs to a minor or is above 18 years of age. After rollout, this model will continue to be refined based on user feedback.

What will happen if the age is not estimated correctly?

OpenAI says that if the model cannot accurately determine the user’s age, it will turn on the safety setting. If a user feels that the system has mistakenly declared him to be under 18 years of age, then he will be able to complete his verification process through a selfie.

Teen users will not see such content

Similarly, if a user is below 18 years of age, then this chatbot will reduce showing sensitive and harmful content to him. The company has said that for users under 18 years of age, content containing graphic violence, harmful viral challenges, sexual, romantic or violent role-play, extreme beauty standards, unhealthy dieting and body shaming will be restricted.
