The use of Artificial Intelligence is increasing rapidly among the youth in the rural areas of the country. According to the survey of a recent report, 55 percent of the youth living in villages are now using AI regularly in their daily tasks. These youth are relying on AI tools for studies, translation, writing and job preparation. This has been revealed in the Youth AI Aspirations and Adoption Report, which has been prepared under the initiative JanAI of Head Held High Foundation. The report includes reactions of 3005 rural youth.

Youth are using AI in daily tasks

According to the survey, 55 percent of rural youth use AI almost every day. Whereas 28 percent people use it sometimes. Whereas only 17 percent youth said that they do not use AI. For many youth, AI is becoming a medium to overcome the problem of language. It has been said in the report that 40 percent of the youth take help of AI for translation, which helps them in understanding English. Whereas 33 percent youth use AI tools for writing i.e. school assignments, resumes and online applications. Although the use of AI is increasing rapidly, currently only 14 percent of rural youth are earning direct income from it. Most of the youth are using it as a means of learning and preparation. The report shows that there is enthusiasm among the youth about AI skills. More than 90 percent of the participants said that they would like to take admission in a government certified AI course. Apart from this, 61 percent of the youth believe that such certification will improve their job prospects.

AI initiatives reaching villages

Through the JanAI AI initiative, AI education and training has been provided to more than 75,000 youth in 50 districts of 16 states in the last one year. With the help of local administration and educational institutes, efforts are being made to spread this initiative beyond the cities to the villages. The aim of this initiative is to make 5 crore citizens of the country AI literate by 2029 and to equip 20 lakh students with AI skills. At the same time, it has been told in this report that for rural India, AI is not just a new technology but is becoming a means of confidence and opportunities. With this, youth are able to write better, learn new things and prepare themselves for jobs. However, experts believe that the real change will happen when AI becomes not only a medium for learning but also a permanent source of employment.
