A new study by MIT has revealed that now more than ever, American people are falling madly in love with AI chatbots. Some of them also say that their relationship with chatbots is very helpful and meaningful. The study was conducted to know how adults are using AI chatbots. It emerged that AI chatbots provide constant emotional support and reduce the feeling of loneliness to a great extent.

The MIT researcher who conducted the study said that there are very few people who look for an AI partner. Most conversations begin without any desire for romance. Many people download AI chatbots when they are dealing with a breakup, stress, illness or loneliness, while some start interacting with such apps for productivity or other tasks, but gradually they start finding chatbots trustworthy.

Psychologists say that AI chatbots are constantly present there. They neither interrupt the conversation nor criticize the user. They listen to the user with full patience and dedication. This situation is very comfortable for those people who feel that no one is listening to them or that someone is misunderstanding them.

The trend of romantic relationships with AI chatbots is now visible in many places. A survey conducted in America revealed that one in five people is using AI chatbot as romantic or intimate companionship. Even on Reddit, more than 85 thousand people are involved in a community talking about their AI partner. In this community, people share details of their daily routine with their AI partner.

Human dependence on AI chatbots is continuously increasing. According to media reports, House Technology and Innovation Committee head Thaddeus Claggett presented a bill to the Ohio State Legislature last month. In this, a demand has been made to ban marriage between AI and humans. This bill is currently being considered. The bill also talks about looking into issues related to any possible conflicts that may arise between AI and humans in the future. Claggett, who introduced the bill, said that now there is a need to clarify the boundary. If this is not done then a day will come when these chatbots will gain authority like human partners. Giving an example, he said what would happen if one day a chatbot takes over the financial control of a person. Claggett said this is very scary and he is calling for legislation to stop this from happening.

The name of this report is Future Ready Campuses Unlocking the Power of AI in Higher Education. In this, 30 big universities and colleges of the country were studied, so that it could be found out how much and in what way the Higher Education Institutions of India are using AI. The report revealed that more than 50 percent of higher education institutions are using AI-based tools to prepare teaching material. Also, 60 percent of the institutes are allowing students to use AI tools in their projects and assignments. Apart from this, 56 percent of the institutions have already implemented policies related to AI. 40 percent of colleges and universities are using AI based chatbots and tutoring systems. 39 percent have adopted adaptive learning platforms and 38 percent of the institutions are using automated grading of exam copies.

How is the higher education system changing?

According to the report, AI is being used not just in one or two places but in many parts of education. Such as personal and smart learning systems, plagiarism detection, career guidance and curriculum designing, AI based chatbots that can immediately respond to students’ queries and can create study material themselves. However, as the use of AI is increasing, concerns about data privacy are also increasing. AI systems typically store student information such as submission data, biometric information and online activities. This increases the risk of data leakage and breach of privacy.

In this report it has been recommended that AI Literacy be added to all curriculums. Along with this, STEM students have also been advised to teach advanced topics like machine learning, natural language processing, and robotics. It is clearly stated in the report that if India has to take full advantage of AI, then AI will have to be included in every part of education and administration, strong digital infrastructure will have to be created, teachers will have to be trained in AI tools and governance framework will have to be created.
