US President Donald Trump’s tariff war has caused earthquake in the global economy. While the step of imposing 50% tariff on India is being done worldwide, now Japan has also stopped an investment package of $ 550 billion (₹ 4.82 lakh crore) in the US. Japan’s top trade -negotiator Ryosei Akazawa had to go to America to finalize the deal, but he postponed the journey at the last moment.

The US and Japan had already agreed that the US would reduce the duty on Japanese imports from 25% to 15%. Japan will invest $ 550 billion in the US, but recently President Donald Trump said that this is our money, we will invest it on our own free will and claimed 90% of the profits to the US. On this, Japanese officials disagreed and said that investment should be based on the principle of mutual benefits.

Japan’s terms and disagreement
The Japanese government has demanded from the US to amend the President’s tariff order and reduce the fee on auto parts. Overlapping tariffs should be abolished. Japanese spokesperson Yoshimasa Hayashi said that more talks on some issues at the US administrative level are necessary, so the tour was canceled.

Modi’s visit to Japan and strategic significance
This incident has happened at a time when Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to Japan on 29-30 August. He has been invited by Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba to the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit. Important issues like strategic partnership, quad cooperation, and regional security will be discussed in the meeting. International analysts believe that this move of Japan can affect the US-Asia relations and the India-Japan partnership can become even stronger.

International reactions
Western experts have described Trump’s tariff policy as a suicide step. Japanese media Kyodo News said that it is not decided that Akazwa will decide his journey again, while according to the report of Reuters, he can visit Washington next week.
