Air India is once again going through a big crisis. After the death of 240 passengers in the plane crash in Ahmedabad in June this year, serious questions have been raised on the safety and operational system of the airline. For this reason, the company has sought financial assistance of Rs 10,000 crore from its owners Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, so that it can get back on track.

After this plane crash in June, the government and aviation regulators tightened the safety audit of all Air India operations. After the accident, there has been a decrease in the confidence of passengers and this has affected both the revenue and reputation of the company.

Why was funding sought?

According to a Bloomberg report, the funds received by Air India will be used primarily in these areas — improving safety and maintenance systems, upgrading engineering infrastructure, employee training and cabin crew skill development, and modernizing operational technology. Through these investments, the company wants to strengthen its safety standards and services again at the international level.

Tata Sons’ stake in Air India is 74.9%, while Singapore Airlines’ stake is 25.1%. Singapore Airlines has said in a statement that it is supporting the modernization and transformation process of Air India in collaboration with Tata Group. However, no official funding has been confirmed yet by both the companies.

 Modernization efforts continue

Ever since the Tata Group acquired Air India in 2022, it has been continuously investing in improving the company’s fleet, technology and service quality. However, the Ahmedabad accident has deeply hurt the brand image and safety confidence of Air India. This is why the company is now refocusing its entire strategy around “security and reliability”.

The process of technical disturbances in the aircraft flying in India does not seem to stop. From the year 2021 till now (July 2025), more than 2000 technical flaws from different airlines of the country were reported to DGCA. This information was given by the Ministry of Civil Aviation in response to a question asked in Parliament.

The most shocking thing in these figures is that the highest faults were recorded in the flights of Air India and Air India Express. In the year 2024, more than 250 technical problems came to light in the flights of Air India Group. It is clear from this that the country’s oldest airline needs to pay more attention to its technical system.

Most flaws are fine before flight

Technical flaws i.e. when the plane causes problems such as engine malfunctions, software fault, landing gear disturbances, and system alert during flight. However, DGCA says that most of the flaws were corrected before the flight and there was no compromise on the safety of the passengers.

Now DGCA intensively examines all these flaws and instructs the airlines to take corrective steps.
1. Spot check
2. Night surveillance
3. Flight recording and report check

International agencies started adopting FAA Standards

Apart from this, DGCA has also started adopting the standard of international agencies FAA (US Federal Aviation Agency) to further strengthen security. Along with technical disturbances, the data of complaints of air travelers is also not low. In 2023, DGCA had received more than 5500 complaints, while in 2025 so far (till July 14), around 3900 complaints have been filed.

These complaints are usually associated with delays, trouble refund problems, poor customer service and lack of convenience during flight. DGCA starts the process of solution by transporting these complaints to the airlines, but still there is dissatisfaction among the passengers.

1. Total technical flaws (2021–2025): 2000+
2. Most complaints: Air India+Air India Express
3. Technical flaws in the year 2025: 183
4. 250+ malfunctions in Air India Group flights in 2024
5. Complaints of passengers received in 2023: 5513
6. So far in 2025 (till 14 July): 3925 complaints

It is clear that efforts of the government and DGCA are going on, but both the safety and satisfaction of the passengers will be affected until the airlines improve the ground level.

The Ahmedabad Air India aircraft accident on June 12 has not only affected the passengers, but has also made a profound impact on the airline employees, especially the pilots. After this accident, mental pressure has increased in the pilots of Air India, due to which the number of holidays taken due to illness has increased rapidly.

Just four days after the accident, 112 pilots reported to be ill on 16 June. These included 61 first officers (co-pilots) and 51 commanders (chief pilots). This situation is not only a matter of concern for Air India, but has become a serious issue for the entire aviation industry.

DGCA issued important instructions to Airlines

In view of the increasing mental pressure in the pilots, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued important instructions to all airlines. DGCA has advised that airlines should start special training related to mental health for their flight crew, ie pilots and co-pilots as well as air traffic controllers (ATCOS).

The purpose of this training is to recognize and solve mental health problems. Also, DGCA has suggested airlines to create a system in which employees can increase each other’s cooperation.

Civil Aviation Minister responded in Parliament

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, while replying to the issue in Parliament, said that mental health is an important part of security in the aviation industry. He informed that DGCA has instructed all airlines to promote mental health awareness for their employees. In this, emphasis will be laid on the employees dealing with stress, understanding mental health problems and encouraging time to seek help on time.

The Dreamliner 787-8 aircraft of Air India going from Ahmedabad to London had a crash, in which more than 260 people lost their lives. The aircraft crashed into a medical college campus 32 seconds after the take-off. The investigation of this accident is still going on.

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said on Sunday (July 20, 2025) that the government should wait for the final report before reaching any conclusion in the aircraft accident in Ahmedabad.

Kinjarapu said, ‘I have full faith in the Bureau of Accident Investigation (AAIB) and their work. He has done a commendable job of decoding the entire black box and providing data in India itself. Along with this, Kinjarapu targeted the Western media and said that there may be some wrong intention in the kind of articles that such media is publishing.

Black box is sent abroad for data

He further said that whenever the black box was found to be damaged in plane accidents, it was always sent abroad to get the data, but this is the first time that AAIB decoded everything here. This is a big success for the country of India.

Minister Kinjarapu said that it would be wrong to draw any conclusions before the investigation and there should be no comment on it. Whatever steps have to be taken in terms of security, we are fully prepared for it.

What was revealed in the first report?

A total of 260 people died in the Air India aircraft accident on 12 June 2025 and AAIB is investigating it. Aircraft number AI-171 going from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick collided with a building immediately after flying. Now only after receiving the final report of AAIB, it will be revealed how this big accident happened with the aircraft.

According to the preliminary inquiry report, a few seconds before the crash, the fuel control switches of both engines of the aircraft were closed. Preliminary investigation reports of 15 pages of the accident revealed that the fuel control switches of both engines were cut off from ‘run’ within a second, due to which the aircraft suddenly started coming down.

The UK Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) said on Saturday (July 12, 2025) that it was reviewing the initial report of the Indian Air Accident Investigation Bureau of Indian Air Accident Investigation in the case of flight number AI 171 of AIDabad to Ahmedabad to London last month.

The Report of the Indian Aircraft Accident Investigation (AAIB) report is based on the initial findings of their investigation into the accident. In this accident, all except one of 242 people aboard the aircraft died. It was the most horrific aircraft accident in a decade.

52 British citizens died on aircraft

Britain’s AAIB is also part of the investigation process, as 52 British citizens aboard the aircraft were also killed in this accident. Britain’s AAIB said in a statement, “UK AAIB welcomes this preliminary report, a summary of the factual information revealed by AAIB India so far.”

It said, ‘British AAIB is reviewing this preliminary report in detail and is in touch with India’s AAIB. According to the International Protocol, the right to issue information related to investigation is completely with the Indian officials.

This thing happened between the pilot

Preliminary investigation reports of 15 pages of the accident revealed that the fuel control switches between the two engines had gone into a ‘cutoff’ position from ‘run’ in a interval of a second, which led to an immediate decrease in the height of the aircraft. According to the report, in recording the voice of the cockpit, a pilot is heard asking why he stopped the fuel, on which the other pilot refuses to close fuel.

British families who lost their loved ones in the June 12 accident have demanded representation of experts in the investigation process. London’s legal firm ‘Keston Law’ welcomed the report. Keystone’s airline James Heli-Protte said, “Families have now understood that there is a more comprehensive scope of investigation, but one of their biggest concerns is that they have been excluded from this safety investigation.”

British and America also ahead for help

He said, ‘Not only Indian AAIB, British AAIB is also helping and American. Therefore ideally, the families of the afflicted should be included in some form or the other. Out of 53 British citizens riding on the aircraft, only one passenger named Vishwas Kumar Prakash, sitting on seat number 11A, survived the accident that took place last month.

Air india tokyo-delhi flight: Another flight of Air India was diverted to Kolkata due to technical fault. AI’s Boeing 787 (VT-AAI) flight took off from Tokyo Henada to Delhi on Sunday, but on the way, some technical faults came to light in the flight’s air conditioner (AC).

After a malfunction in the AC, the cabin of the aircraft started heating up. Due to this, there was an atmosphere like chaos among the passengers sitting on the flight. After which the aircraft was diverted towards Kolkata and the aircraft made a safe landing at Kolkata Airport.

According to the data from flight tracking sites, Air India flight AI357 took off from Tokyo Henada to Delhi on Sunday (June 29, 2025) at 12.31 pm on Sunday (June 29, 2025), but after the AC malfunction in the middle way, the flight made landing in Kolkata at 3.33 pm.

The aircraft filled the flight from Haneda in Tokyo to Delhi

The Air India spokesperson said, “Air India flight AI357, which flew from Haneda to Delhi on Sunday (June 29, 2025), has been diverted towards Kolkata as a precaution due to the warm temperature of the flight cabin. The flight has a safe landing at Kolkata Airport.”

Aircraft being investigated in Kolkata

He said, “The fault in the AC of the aircraft in Kolkata is being investigated. All our ground colleagues in Kolkata are trying to make all the necessary arrangements to reduce the problems and discomfort due to this diversion.”

Alternative arrangements being made for passengers

The airline spokesman said, “We are making alternative arrangements to take all our passengers to Delhi as soon as possible. We regret the inconvenience caused to passengers due to technical malfunction and diversion in the aircraft.”

Air India Crash: The Insurance Claim Amount has crossed Rs 1,000 crore after the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner accident in Ahmedabad. This is the most expensive insurance claim ever in the aviation sector. This amount is more than the total annual premium of the aviation sector across the country.

1,000 crore burden on insurance companies

Let us know that the Tata Group, who owe Air India, has announced to give Rs 1 crore to the family of every person who lost his life in this plane crash. 241 people have died in the accident. In such a situation, it is estimated that the insurance claim can reach Rs 1,000 crore, which can have a big impact on the Aviation Insurance Industry.

Compensation will be given under Montreal Convention

Experts say that compensation should be given to the families of the passengers of Air India crashed aircraft under the Montreal Convention 1999. That is, the dependents of the dead will have to pay 1,28,821 SDR (Special Drawing Rights), which seats Rs 1.4 crore per passenger according to the current rates.

Currently, the price of a SDR is Rs 120, which is based on these five currencies, US $, Euro, Chinese Ranminbi, Japanese Yen and British Pound Sterling. However, the final payment will depend on how much insurance policy was taken by Air India for its passengers.

What is Montreal Convention?

Overall, under the Montreal Convention, there is a legal framework for various issues related to air travel, which is in the interest of travelers. According to this rule, if the airline is responsible for the damage to a passenger, then they will have to pay compensation compulsorily.

India adopted the Montreal Convention in 2009. Under the Montreal Convention (An International Aviation Treaty), airlines are required to pay a compensation of about $ 171,000 (or 1,28,821 SDR) per passenger in case of death. Some experts say that this can be up to $ 250,000 per person.

“Compensation is calculated using SDR,” MD and CEO Amit Aggarwal of brokerage firm Houden (India) told the news agency PTI, which was 128,821 SDR (around US $ 1.33 per SDR) till October 2024. The final payment will depend on the coverage for Air India. ”

Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has passed away. He also fell victim to the accident in the plane crash in Ahmedabad. According to the information, Vijay Rupani was going from Ahmedabad to London to meet his daughter. Air India aircraft crashed immediately after takeoff, in which he also died including 241 passengers. Many leaders including Gujarat BJP have mourned the death of Vijay Rupani.

Let me tell you, Vijay Rupani has been a veteran leader of Gujarat. Talking about his political career, he was elected the mayor of Rajkot for the first time in 1998. After this he was elected Rajya Sabha MP in 2006. In 2014, he became an MLA from Rajkot West. Vijay Rupani has been the Chief Minister of Gujarat twice from 2016 to 2021. In such a situation, let us know how much pension was received to former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani? What was the net worth of Vijay Rupani and after the death, who will get pension in Vijay Rupani’s family?

How much is the net worth?

Talking about the net worth of Vijay Rupani, according to the affidavit filed in 2017, Vijay Rupani had assets worth Rs 9 crore, while he also had a liability of Rs 83 lakh. In 2017, Vijay Rupani had cash of Rs 2,10,233, while his bank account had Rs 74,93,158. Apart from this, he also invested in the stock market and mutual funds.

Did pension get pension as former CM?

Let me tell you, there is no provision to give pension to any leader in our country as former Prime Minister and former Chief Minister. The former Prime Minister is given a pension as an MP and the former Chief Minister as an MLA. As far as Vijay Rupani is concerned, Gujarat is the only state in the country, where former MLAs are not given pension. However, it has been demanding for a long time. Vijay Rupani has also been a former Rajya Sabha MP. In such a situation, they used to get a pension of Rs 31 thousand per month, which can now be found by their dependents.
