Delhi’s air becomes severe, condition continues to worsen

On Monday, the air quality index in many areas of Delhi was recorded in the very poor category. AQI reached 493 in Anand Vihar and 498 in Jahangirpuri, which falls in the severe category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the air remained at critical level at 38 stations in the capital. Visibility has also reduced due to thick layer of smog and fog. In view of the serious situation of pollution, the Air Quality Management Commission has implemented Stage-4 of the Graded Response Action Plan.

What things should be kept in mind while buying a mask?

The most important thing while choosing a mask to protect from pollution is its filtration capacity. According to experts, to avoid this pollution, the mask should be such that it can filter very fine particles like PM 2.5. Along with this, proper fitting on the face is also important. If air is going in from the edge of the mask then it is not considered effective. Whereas a comfortable mask which can be worn for a long time is better in terms of protection.

Why are clothes and surgical masks not effective?

Cloth masks may look good, but they are not capable of stopping the microscopic particles present in urban pollution. Whereas surgical masks provide some protection, but due to loose fitting, they are not able to completely protect against PM 2.5 particles. Therefore, relying on cloth and surgical masks can be dangerous during severe pollution.

Why N95, KN95 and FFP2 are the right options?

According to experts, respirators like N95, KN95 and FFP2 are considered the most reliable for protection from pollution. When worn properly, these masks are capable of blocking up to 95 percent of fine particles. At the same time, these masks prove to be more effective for those traveling on busy roads and using public transport. Apart from this, high grade masks like N99 can provide more relief for people suffering from asthma, allergies or respiratory problems. These masks filter even very small particles. Delhi Pollution: There has been a slight improvement in the air quality i.e. AQI of Delhi-NCR. Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has fallen below 400, after which the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has withdrawn the restrictions imposed under Group-3. Grape-3 was implemented in the capital when the pollution level had crossed the 400 mark and reached ‘very poor’ condition.

Let us tell you, under Grape-3, many strict rules are implemented to control air quality, which include things like ban on construction work, work from home, operating schools and colleges on hybrid mode. Now that Grape-3 has been removed, these rules have also been relaxed. However, this does not mean that now all kinds of activities are allowed in Delhi. CAQM has clearly said that the restrictions of Grape-1 and Grape-2 are still applicable in Delhi.

When is GRAP-3 implemented?

GRAP system has been implemented to control air quality in Delhi-NCR. Under this, restrictions from Grape-1 to Grape-3 are implemented in a phased manner. It depends on the level of pollution when which GRAP system will be implemented. As far as Grape-3 is concerned, when the pollution level in Delhi-NCR crosses 400, then Grape-3 restrictions are implemented. Group 4 is implemented when AQI crosses 450.

What happens in Grape-3?

• Under Grape-3, BS-3 petrol and BS-4 diesel light motor vehicles are not allowed to enter Delhi.
• There is also a ban on diesel-powered inter-state buses, All India Tourist Permit buses and tempo travelers.
• Under this, works like construction and demolition are also banned.
• Transportation of dusty materials like cement, sand and fly ash is limited.
• 50 percent work from home is implemented in government and private offices.
• Classes are conducted in hybrid mode in schools and colleges.

These restrictions will still be applicable in Delhi

Even though Grape-3 has been lifted in Delhi, it does not mean that people will be allowed to do every kind of activity. The administration has clarified that the air quality of Delhi-NCR is still bad, hence restrictions under Grap-1 and Grap-2 will still be applicable. Let us tell you which things will be banned during this period-

• There will be a complete ban on the use of coal and wood in hotels and restaurants.
• There will be complete strictness on old petrol and diesel vehicles.
• Industrial activities remain limited, many types of industries are kept closed.
• There is a ban on construction works. Collecting construction material in public places is also wrong.
• Thermal power plants running on coal are closed.
• There is a ban on burning garbage in the open, it is a legal offence.

Delhi’s air quality improved

Along with winter, the air quality in Delhi has improved compared to the past days, after the festival of Diwali, where the AQI level had gone up to around 350 in areas like Anand Vihar, Akshardham of Delhi, now it has reduced. Except Wazirpur area, AQI level has come below 300 in most of the areas.
Wazir was the most polluted area in Delhi on Saturday, today the air pollution level here was recorded at 325, which comes in the category of very poor air. The air in Anand Vihar, which was on top in terms of pollution, has improved. The level of air pollution here was recorded at 292 at 7.30 am today. Which has now moved from very bad to bad category. which are less than before

AQI of air came below 300

The amount of air pollution was recorded at 297 in Chandni Chowk area of ​​Delhi, 291 in RK Puram, 277 in Vivek Vihar, 274 in Sonia Vihar, 257 in Dwarka Sector 8, AQI level of 255 in Burari area, AQI level of 252 in Alipur area and 215 in Najafgarh. This air comes in bad category. At the same time, AQI of air on Lodhi Road in Delhi was recorded at 149 which falls in the moderate category.

In the month of October this year, Delhi’s AQI did not cross 400 even for a single day i.e. in the very serious category. Which is a big matter of relief.

The condition of Delhi is very bad since the next day of Diwali. Even breathing is becoming difficult here. On Diwali night, people burst firecrackers more than the two-hour limit, after which the AQI reached 447 on Tuesday morning. After seeing this, many Bollywood celebs have expressed concern. Shahid Kapoor’s wife Mira Rajput and actress Vaani Kapoor have expressed their concern by sharing posts on social media. He says that people should not have done this.

Vaani Kapoor also expressed concern

Vaani Kapoor also shared a post on her Instagram story. He wrote- As soon as I woke up in the morning, Delhi’s AQI reached 447, which is the highest in the world today. Maybe next year, we can find a way to celebrate without reducing the air we breathe. An AQI between 0 to 50 is considered good, 51 to 100 satisfactory, 101 to 200 moderate, 201 to 300 poor, 301 to 400 very poor and 401 to 500 severe.

The situation regarding pollution in Delhi is serious. On the morning of 21st October, the next day of Diwali, the situation was worse in many areas. What is the standard of AQI?

Let us tell you that AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, between 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, between 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, between 201 and 300 ‘bad’, between 301 and 400 ‘very poor’ and between 401 and 500 ‘severe’.

According to CPCB’s hourly data, Delhi’s AQI was 349 at 12 midnight and 348 at 1 am. On Monday 20 October, 36 out of 38 monitoring stations in the capital recorded pollution levels in the ‘red zone’, taking the air quality in Delhi from ‘very poor’ to ‘severe’ due to heavy pollution. The 24-hour average AQI of Delhi was 345 (very poor category) on Monday. Air quality is expected to reach the ‘severe’ category even more widely on Tuesday 21 October and Wednesday 22 October. Yesterday’s temperature was less than normal

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) informed that the relative humidity level in Delhi was recorded at 81 percent at 5:30 pm on Thursday. It is clear from this high humidity level that the moisture content in the atmosphere was quite high, due to which the weather felt light humid and viscosity.

Slight improvement in Delhi’s air

Talking about the quality of air in Delhi, the air quality index (AQI) was 107 at 6 pm on Thursday (September 18), which falls in the ‘medium’ category. This will give some relief to patients suffering from respiratory disease.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), AQI is considered to be ‘good’ between 0 and 50, ‘satisfactory’ between 51 and 100, ‘medium’ between 101 and 200, ‘bad’ between 201 and 300, ‘bad’ between 301 and 400 is considered ‘very bad’ and ‘severe’ between 401 and 4000. This means that pollution in air is not very dangerous for the common people, but people with respiratory problems should take some care.
