Can the player be punished?

In IPL, there is no special rule regarding keeping slips in the pocket. If a player tries to tamper with the ball in any way by using a piece of paper, it may be counted under Article 2.14 of the Code of Conduct. If a case of ball tampering comes to light then BCCI’s anti-corruption unit is activated.

Earlier, allegations of tampering with the ball through sandpaper have come to light. Sandpaper, however, is rougher than a normal piece of paper.

It was only in IPL 2025 when Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and fast bowler Khalil Ahmed were surrounded by allegations of ball tampering. But after investigation the authorities did not take any action against him.

Chennai Super Kings, who came to bat first in the 59th match of IPL 2026 at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, scored 187 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs. The team’s star batsmen like Sanju Samson, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Urvil Patel looked flopped. Karthik Sharma, who was worth Rs 14 crore 20 lakh, played the biggest innings and scored 71 runs in 42 balls with the help of 6 fours and 5 sixes.

In the end, for Chennai, Shivam Dubey and Prashant Veer made a partnership of 45* runs in 24 balls for the sixth wicket, due to which the team was able to cross the figure of 180. After the fall of the fifth wicket, it seemed that the team would hardly be able to reach even 160.

Now Lucknow will have to score 188 runs to win. Akash Maharaj Singh took maximum 3 wickets for Lucknow against Chennai. Apart from this, Mohammed Shami and Mayank Yadav took 1-1 wicket.

Chennai faltered from the beginning

The team lost the first wicket on the score of 31 runs. After this the team could not recover. Till the score of 52 runs, 3 wickets of the team had fallen.
