After the defeat of Trinamool Congress in the West Bengal Assembly elections, Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief Akhilesh Yadav met party supremo Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata on May 7 and expressed solidarity with her. Mamta Banerjee will strengthen INDIA alliance

BJP secured two-third majority in Bengal

In the meeting with Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh discussed the political situation after the assembly elections in West Bengal and reiterated his support for opposition unity against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP won 207 seats in the 294-member West Bengal Assembly and secured a two-thirds majority in the House, ending Trinamool Congress’s 15-year rule in the state. Trinamool Congress had to be satisfied with just 80 seats in the assembly elections.

After the defeat in Bengal, Mamata Banerjee had said that now she will focus on strengthening the opposition alliance at the national level. He had said, ‘The leaders of India Alliance called me and expressed solidarity. Sonia ji and Rahul Gandhi have also talked to me. Mamata Banerjee’s growing closer to the Congress is a bit contradictory, as her party has previously been critical of the Congress and its leaders, especially Rahul Gandhi, and there have been frequent differences of opinion between the two in many states like West Bengal and Tripura. Akhilesh Yadav told that when I wanted to build Agra Lucknow Highway, we added many better things to it. Taking a dig at the BJP government, he said that we had already done the work of landing airplanes on the moving expressway 11 years ago. The work which this government is doing now.

‘Most trees were planted under our government’

We had made a small change during our government that to create a green belt, the first tree will not be planted by any minister or leader but the last tree will be planted. Because of this, there was pressure on the departments and when they had made the entire green belt, a leader or minister was being invited to plant the last tree. This was the reason that during our government maximum trees were planted and forest area increased in Uttar Pradesh.

Samajwadi Party was a village party – Akhilesh Yadav

Samajwadi Party was called the village party. He said that we were called against English, but as we decided that we will give laptops to children for studies, the headline was published in all the newspapers. Till date no one has been able to raise a single question on the process of this laptop distribution.

Akhilesh Yadav told that we had done a creative thing that when the laptop is on, first of all it should see the picture of me and Netaji and that happened and even till today, whoever turns on the laptop would see the picture of me and Netaji first.

He further said that we also worked a lot for cultural creativity in our government. Because of the decisions we took during that time, films and serials started being made in Uttar Pradesh. Our folk artistes got work and even today the government is carrying forward this policy.

Started the tradition of Holi with flowers

Akhilesh Yadav told that we had started the Holi tradition of flowers. Due to this, people in the surrounding villages started growing flowers. Along with Saifai Mahotsav, we started Agra Mahotsav, Jhansi Mahotsav. He told that we worked to honor the artists of Uttar Pradesh by honoring Yash Bharti. Worked on giving Rs 50 thousand every month to respected artists. He said that MP Milind Deora shared the video of Mumbai’s cycle way, let me tell you that we had made it in 2006 itself.

Akhilesh Yadav held a meeting with SP MLAs

Before the beginning of the budget session, Samajwadi Party chief and former CM of the state Akhilesh Yadav also held a meeting with the party MLAs at the party headquarters. Showing too much caution may prove costly – Akhilesh Yadav

Police will file an appeal against the court order

A court located in Chandausi of Sambhal district has ordered to register an FIR against the then police area officer (CO) Anuj Chaudhary, the then Kotwali in-charge Anuj Tomar and unknown policemen in the Sambhal violence case. However, a senior police officer said that the administration will file an appeal against this order.

The order was passed by Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Vibhanshu Sudhir on a petition filed by the father of a person injured in the violence on January 9 alleging that his son was shot by the police. The complainant accused the then CO Anuj Chaudhary, the then police station in-charge Anuj Tomar and 10-12 unknown policemen.

Judicial investigation has already been done in the matter- SP

Sambhal Superintendent of Police (SP) Krishna Kumar Bishnoi had told that the police will challenge the court order. He said, “An appeal will be filed and FIR will not be registered as judicial inquiry has already been conducted in the case.” Anuj Chaudhary is currently posted as Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) in Firozabad, while Anuj Tomar is currently in-charge of Chandausi Kotwali in Sambhal district.

What is the whole controversy?

The controversy began on November 19 last year when Hindu petitioners, including lawyers Hari Shankar Jain and Vishnu Shankar Jain, filed a suit in the Sambhal district court claiming that the Shahi Jama Masjid was built over the already existing Harihar Nath temple. On the same day, a survey was conducted on the orders of the court, after which a second survey was conducted on 24 November. After the second survey, violence broke out in Sambhal, in which 4 people died and 29 policemen were injured.

Police have registered 12 FIRs in connection with the violence, naming over 2,000 people, including several political personalities including SP MP Ziaur Rehman Barke and mosque committee chief Zafar Ali.
