Tension seems to be increasing between India and Bangladesh. Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi has suspended visa services indefinitely on Monday. This decision has been taken after the protests outside the High Commission of Bangladesh.

The Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh has suspended visa services in the northeastern state of Tripura. Tipra Motha Party and other groups had protested here on Sunday.

Notices issued by missions in New Delhi and Agartala said that all consular and visa services have been suspended until further orders. The staff of the High Commission of Bangladesh is still present there.

Why are protests happening?
In fact, after the death of radical student leader Sharif Usman Hadi last week, there were unrest and massive demonstrations in Bangladesh. They took an anti-India stance. Hadi has been an anti-India critic. Hadi was shot by some gunmen in Dhaka and he was admitted to the hospital. He was then airlifted to Singapore, but he died.

India has suspended services in Chittagong

Here, on December 18, a mob tried to attack the Assistant High Commission of India in Chittagong. After this, India had suspended Indian visa services in Chittagong. Apart from this, protests were also seen outside the Indian Commission in Dhaka, Khulna and Rajshahi. Bangladesh demands that Hadi’s killers, who have entered India, should be handed over.

India termed Bangladesh’s claims as misleading

Meanwhile, India on Sunday termed the news of security breach in Bangladesh Commission as misleading. Along with this, concern has also been expressed from the Indian side on the murder of Dipu Chandra.

India-Bangladesh relations are at an all-time low since the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government and the formation of the caretaker government under the leadership of Mohammad Yunus.
