Speaking to ABP News, Naveen Sharma, a distributor of cold drinks in East Delhi’s Lakshmi Nagar, said, “In the last ten days, the temperature has gone up by 10 degrees, so the demand has increased by 50-60 percent, but it is also true that the stock is not coming from behind.”

Supply of diet cold drink cans badly affected

Naveen further said that other cold drinks like normal Cola, Orange are still available on distribution, but the supply of diet cold drink cans has been badly affected. Naveen Sharma said, “Nowadays, drinking cans of diet cold drink has become a fashion among the youth. But due to the Iran-America war, there is a problem in the entire supply chain of diet cold drink cans.”

According to the distributor, the real problem lies in the aluminum coming from Gulf countries. The distributor told that India imports 10-15 percent aluminum from Gulf countries and the same is used in making cans. Due to the war, many shipments were stuck, due to which the supply of cans almost came to a halt.

Aluminum supply halted

How has this stoppage of aluminum supply affected their business? Giving an example of this, Naveen said, “As if I had placed 100 percent order, but now I am getting only 50 percent. Those who are big traders are facing even more problems.”

So will normal cold drinks along with diet cold drinks also become expensive? The distributor’s answer to this was clear, “If the cost of anything made from petroleum or aluminum increases, the burden will ultimately fall on the customer. The company, the distributor, the shopkeeper and then the consumer are a chain. If it becomes expensive for the company, then it will have to be sold at a higher price.”

The distributor further said that earlier a 300 ml can was available in the restaurant for Rs 40, but now the supply of big cans has reduced because the supply of aluminum has almost come to a standstill and from what is left, now only small size cans are being made and coming to the market.

Prices of drinks in plastic bottles may increase

The distributor also admitted that if the war does not stop and the situation does not become normal, then in the coming few days, there may be some impact on the prices of drinks in plastic bottles, although at present the maximum pressure is visible on the cans of diet cold drinks. He further said that these four months of summer are most important for distributors. If the goods are not sold during this peak season then there will be loss, our business depends mostly on these 4 months only. At present the company is trying to improve the supply, but no one can tell when the war will end.
