How Alzheimer’s Impacts Relationships: If, after nearly four decades of marriage, your spouse suddenly asks you again, “Will you marry me?” So it becomes not just an emotional moment, but a deep story of illness and unbreakable love, battling memory. Something similar happened to 78-year-old Linda Feldman in November 2025. Her husband Michael O’Riley (77) is suffering from Alzheimer’s. Some days he doesn’t even remember that Linda is his wife, but one thing never changes, he just knows that he loves her very much.

In Linda’s words in this story published recently in The Washington Post, he just knows that he loves me, it never changes. In today’s times, where relationships break easily, this story shows that true love can survive even in the face of difficult challenges like illness.

life before memories

Michael and Linda met in 1979. Both worked in the field of law and their friendship gradually turned into a deep relationship. Despite having different natures, they became a part of each other’s world. Travels, long conversations and time spent with family became the hallmark of their life. In 1987, they married Sadegi and lived together like a strong family for years.

When the disease began to be understood

About seven years ago, Michael was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. This disease not only takes away memories, but also gradually limits a person’s identity, self-reliance and social life. Michael, who once argued in court for hours without notes, now started getting confused in words and ways. Linda took care of him at home for a long time, it was a very exhausting experience mentally and emotionally.

Irritability, confusion and loss of identity are common problems in Alzheimer’s patients, but the one saving grace with Michael was that his affection never diminished. He still held Linda’s hand, hugged her and said “I love you.”

Caring and emotional health

Two and a half years ago, Linda had to shift Michael to a memory care facility with a heavy heart. This decision is very difficult for many families, but proper care is important not only for the mental health of the patient but also for the caregiver. Linda admits that here she is relieved that Michael is safe.

Once again ‘yes’

In November 2025, Michael proposed marriage to Linda again. Just like the first time. This was a new thing for them, but for Linda it was an emotional moment beyond memories. They remarried in a small ceremony in January. It is not just a story, but also emphasizes how important emotional connection is in a disease like Alzheimer’s.

Many people like crib of cats, but do you know that the help of cats can also be taken to treat Alzheimer’s and dementia patients. Actually, there was a study recently. It was revealed that dementia disease in cats is very similar to Alzheimer’s disease in humans. In such a situation, scientists believe that cats can be very helpful in the treatment of Alzheimer’s and dementia. Let’s know what is the whole matter?

Connection of cats to dementia and Alzheimer’s

According to the information, this research has been done by scientists of the University of Edinburgh of United Kingdom. He noticed that a special toxic protein accumulates in their brain, which is called amiloid-belta. This protein is considered to be the main cause of Alzheimer’s disease in humans. The study published in the European Journal of Neuroscience told that cats and humans have many similarities in this disease.

Such symptoms appear in cats

Scientists noticed that their behavior also changes due to dementia in aged cats. Because of this, she repeatedly makes meaun-dhayon. She appears in confusion. At the same time, their sleep also breaks again and again. All these symptoms are similar to Alzheimer’s disease in humans. In such a situation, scientists feel that Alzheimer’s disease can be understood well by studying cats.

This work done in research

Scientists did research on the minds of 25 dead cats for this study. Some of these cats were suffering from dementia. With the help of a powerful microscope, he examined the brain of cats and found that cats with aged and dementia had a accumulation of amiloid-beeta protein in the brain. This deposition was particularly seen in Synaps. Synaps work to send messages between brain cells, which are very important for healthy mind. When amiloid-bit accumulates in them, they are not able to work properly. This reduces memory and thinking ability. The same problem is also seen in Alzheimer’s disease.

What is synaptic pruning?

Another interesting thing came to light in research. Scientists saw that some special cells like astroosites and microglia in the brain. These cells eat the spoiled Symples in the brain. This process is called synaptic pruning. This process is beneficial during the development of the brain, because it keeps the brain clean and organized. At the same time, this process becomes more in dementia, due to which essential synaps are also destroyed. This affects the efficiency and memory of the brain.
