Rangbhari Ekadashi 2026 in Kashi Vishwanath: Kashi, the city of seven times and nine festivals, is world famous. Devotees from all over the world come here to visit the temple of Baba Vishwanath. Rangotsav will start in Kashi on 27 February 2026 on Rangbhari Ekadashi (Amalaki Ekadashi). According to tradition, Abeer-Gulaal will be offered in Kashi Vishwanath on Rangbhari Ekadashi.

Gulal will be offered to Baba Vishwanath

Holi is a festival of colours. It is considered the biggest festival in Hindu religion. When it comes to Holi celebration, Holi of Kashi city becomes even more special. Because here the Rangotsav starts with Rangbhari Ekadashi. The people of Kashi offer Abeer-Gulaal to Baba Vishwanath on Rangbhari Ekadashi and ask for permission to play Holi. The tradition of offering gulal to Kashi Vishwanath on Rangbhari Ekadashi is considered to be about 360 years old. The tradition was started by the family of Vice Chancellor Tiwari, the former Mahant of Vishwanath Temple.

Rangbhari Ekadashi on 27 February 2026

According to astrologer and prophet Anish Vyas, Rangbhari Ekadashi will be on Friday 27 February 2026, which is also known as Amalaki Ekadashi. On this Ekadashi of Phalgun Shukla Paksha, Masane Holi is also played at Harishchandra Ghat, in which Naga Sadhus and Kinnar community participate. There is a mythological belief that on Rangbhari Ekadashi, Baba Vishwanath comes to his in-laws’ house to perform Gauna of Maa Gaura.

Unique tradition of Shiv-Gaura’s Gauna

There is also a tradition of Gauna of Shiva and Gaura on Rangbhari Ekadashi. It is believed that after marriage on Mahashivratri, on the day of Rangbhari Ekadashi, Shiva goes to his in-laws’ house to perform ‘Gauna’ of Goddess Parvati. On Rangbhari Ekadashi, decoration is done in Kashi Vishwanath temple including Tilbhandeshwar and Gauri Kedareshwar temples and palanquin procession is taken out. For these reasons, the festival of Rangbhari Ekadashi is considered a symbol of color festival, union of Shiva-Shakti and good wishes for family life.
