Iran has such a weapon that neither a missile nor a nuclear program is needed to operate it. Just one threat and major economies of the world will come to their knees. Iran first threatened the Strait of Hormuz, then targeted it and finally closed it ‘until further orders’ on July 12, 2026. So has Iran made an ‘economic bomb’ that can destroy the entire world’s economy without a nuclear explosion?

Why is the Strait of Hormuz so special?

This is not a common sea route. The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the open Indian Ocean. Its width at its narrowest point is only 33 kilometers. The oil passing through this small strip of water is the heartbeat of the world economy. According to reports from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) and the Congressional Research Service (CRS):

Importance of Hormuz Strait

oil passing every day

total oil flow per day

about 20 million barrels

Share in total world oil consumption

20%

share in world marine oil trade

33% (one-third)

Share in world’s total LNG supply

20%

Apart from this, a large part of the world’s uranium and food grain trade also passes through this route. If this route is closed, not only will the prices of petrol and diesel start skyrocketing across the world, but food items will also become expensive.

What is this ‘economic bomb’?

According to TIME magazine, ‘Controlling the Strait of Hormuz is Iran’s real nuclear option.’ It is being called ‘economic bomb’ because its method of destruction is unique:

Effect without firing: When Iran threatened to close Hormuz for the first time in March 2026, not a single missile was fired. Yet the insurance companies immediately withdrew the insurance cover given to the tankers. As a result, tanker movements fell by 70% and the price of Brent crude oil crossed $100 per barrel for the first time in four years.

Cheaper and faster than a nuclear bomb: It takes decades to build a nuclear bomb and costs billions of dollars. All Iran has to do is threaten to close Hormuz with its navy and missiles and the entire world economy gets shaken.

Losses worth bearing: This is also a kind of ‘suicide bomb’ because if Hormuz is closed, Iran itself is not able to sell its oil. Iran estimates that the harm it will cause to other countries is much greater than its own loss. That’s why he is ready to take this risk.

Who will be hit by the economic bomb?

Foreign affairs expert and retired JNU professor Dr. A. Of. According to Pasha, the closure of Hormuz will affect everyone, but its impact on Asian countries will be no less than an economic earthquake. Asia’s major economies are most dependent on Gulf oil for their energy needs:

1. Biggest blow to China

37.7% of the total oil passing through Hormuz goes to China alone. China fulfills 80% of its total energy needs through this route. If this route remains closed for a long time, China’s factories may come to a standstill and its economy will be deeply hurt.

2. A plate of food is also expensive in India

14.7% of the oil passing through Hormuz comes to India, but India’s helplessness is much greater. India imports 85% of its crude oil and 50% of its LNG requirement. According to the report of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), India’s GDP and domestic income are certain to decline due to the closure of Hormuz. The biggest hit will be on farmers and common families. India imports 60% of DAP fertilizer and the entire potash requirement is also met by imports. The effect of closure of Hormuz will not be limited to petrol pumps only, but will also increase the prices of vegetables, pulses and bread.

3. Industrial shock to Japan and South Korea

10.9% of the oil passing through Hormuz goes to Japan and 12% to South Korea. Both countries import most of their energy and their industries run on oil. The closure of Hormuz would mean slowing down of their factories and increase in inflation.

4. Oil exporting countries also in trouble

The interesting thing is that not only the oil buyers but also the oil sellers will fall prey to this bomb. Gulf countries like Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait and Iraq send their oil out through this route. When Hormuz closed in March 2026, Iraq and Kuwait had to reduce their oil production within a few days because they ran out of space to store oil. On the other hand, countries like America and Russia benefit from expensive oil.

How much will prices rise and how much will growth fall?

Retired JNU professor and economist Dr. Arun Kumar has given three different results:

Estimates of oil prices:

state of war

Average price of oil (in 2026)

If the war ends in April 2026

$82 per barrel

If the war lasts till July 2026

$100 per barrel

If the war continues for a whole year

up to $125 per barrel

According to The Economist, if Hormuz remains closed till the last quarter of the year, then global GDP growth in 2026 will be 1.9%, which is called recession. Whereas in 2027, global GDP growth may be around 1.4%.

The World Bank estimates that due to the closure of Hormuz, the global inflation rate may reach 4% in 2026, which will severely affect the purchasing power of the common people.

What is the situation now after the closure of Hormuz?

By the beginning of July 2026, the situation was such that only about 2 tankers were passing through Hormuz every day, whereas on normal days 60 tankers used to pass. So now:

Relief path: If a diplomatic agreement is reached between America and Iran and Hormuz is opened, then there will be a huge fall in oil prices and the world will heave a sigh of relief.

stop way: Hormuz remained closed, but the scope of the war did not increase. In such a situation, the price of oil may remain between 80-90 dollars per barrel, due to which inflation will increase but the whole world will not be in the grip of recession.

Path of Destruction: Hormuz remains closed and the war spreads on a larger scale. In this situation, oil will cross $100 per barrel and there will be a danger of serious economic crisis and recession from Asia to Europe.

Which trump card does Iran have?

Dr. A. Of. Pasha says, ‘By controlling Hormuz, Iran has actually acquired a weapon with the help of which it can force the world’s major powers to obey its wishes. Iran’s economic bomb has the power to bring the enemies to their knees economically without any major attack. The real question is how America and its allies respond to this unique challenge. How do countries like India and Japan find their way out of this fire?

The US attacked Iranian targets, which included boats trying to lay mines and missile launch sites. He has called it a defensive action.

US Central Command said in a statement that these attacks were carried out to protect our troops from threats posed by the Iranian military. CENTCOM spokesman Navy Captain Tim Hawkins said, ‘US Central Command is protecting its forces by exercising restraint during the ongoing ceasefire.’

These attacks came at a time when Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baqai said that some progress has been made in talks with the US, but no deal to end the fighting is going to happen soon.

Iran did not respond to America’s attacks

According to the New York Times, Captain Hawkins said the target of the attacks was an area near Bandar Abbas, a southern port city and an Iranian naval base located on the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s state media had earlier reported that local authorities were investigating after hearing explosions in Bandar Abbas. Iran has not yet responded to the new US attacks. It is not clear what impact these would have on any potential peace deal between the US and Iran.

Trump had said – close to deal

Recently, Donald Trump had said that both the sides are close to a deal, but later he said that he has asked the negotiators not to make the deal in a hurry. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also said that an agreement could probably be reached on Monday.

An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said, ‘It is correct to say that we have reached a conclusion on a large part of the issues under discussion, but to say that this means that an agreement will be signed soon – no one can make such a claim.’

It is reported that the Memorandum of Understanding being discussed includes plans to extend the ceasefire by 60 days, reopen the Strait of Hormuz and further talks on Iran’s nuclear program.

US and Iranian armies have maintained ceasefire since April 8. Iran maintains control over Gulf shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and the US Navy has tried to block Iranian ports.

Tension between America and Iran seems to be increasing rapidly. In the last few weeks, America has significantly increased its military presence in the Middle East. Experts believe that this could be the largest military gathering since the 2003 invasion of Iraq. However, it is also possible that this military preparation is just a pressure tactic, so that Iran can be forced into an agreement. America’s Gulf region allies are also worried about the uncertain consequences of a possible attack.

If talks between America and Iran fail and President Donald Trump decides to attack, it could have major consequences. Let us understand from 7 possible situations.

1. America can attack nuclear targets

America can launch precise air and naval strikes on Iran’s IRGC, Basij forces, missile bases and nuclear centers. If this weakens the government and brings about change, it may look positive. But the examples of Iraq and Libya show that it is not easy to bring stable democracy after dictatorship. Sometimes chaos increases.

2. Government remains in place, but policies remain soft

It is possible that even after the attacks, the current government of Iran will remain in power, but it may make some changes in its policies, which will be in the interest of the public. Such as reducing support to regional militias or limiting nuclear programs. However, the Iranian leadership has shown less flexibility in the past decades.

3. Military rule may be imposed in Iran

If the current government of Iran falls due to America’s attack, then powerful groups like IRGC can run their rule. This will not lead to democracy but a harsh military rule. Due to this, common people may have to face more strict rules and laws instead of freedom.

4. Direct response

Iran has already warned that it will respond to the attack. It has ballistic missiles and drones. It can target American bases in the Gulf or countries like Israel.

5. Tension in the Strait of Hormuz

Iran can create obstacles in the Strait of Hormuz. About 20-25% of the world’s oil is supplied from here. The blockage will increase oil prices and affect the global economy.

6. Attack on American warship

Iran can target American ships with strategies like swarm attack. If this happens the conflict may increase further.

7. Mass chaos

If the current government of Iran falls due to America’s action, civil war and ethnic conflict may erupt. This could lead to a refugee crisis and humanitarian crisis, which would impact the entire Middle East.

Tension in the Middle East seems to be reaching its peak once again. Reports are emerging in the international media regarding the possibility of a limited military attack by America on Iran. Meanwhile, Tehran has issued a strict warning. At the same time, US President Donald Trump has indicated that the coming 10 days could be decisive. Making the situation more difficult, Britain has refused to allow the US to use its air bases for possible attacks on Iran.

Iran has made it clear that if any military action is taken against it, it will not hold back in responding. The statement issued by Tehran said that in the event of a conflict, the bases, facilities and assets of the enemy forces will be considered targets. This statement is being seen as a direct warning to America and its allied countries. Analysts believe that Iran has the capability to target American bases and important structures of allied countries in the region.

Trump’s 10 day ultimatum

US President Donald Trump has also given a sharp statement on this matter. He said, ‘The world will know in the next 10 days whether Iran agrees to the deal or America takes military action against it.’ This statement of Trump is being seen as a strategy to put pressure on Iran. It is believed that Washington wants to persuade Iran into a new nuclear or security agreement. However, if talks fail, the possibility of a limited military attack is not being ruled out.

Britain refused to use the airbase

Amidst this increasing tension, Britain has not allowed America to use its airports to attack Iran. This step indicates that even America’s traditional allies are cautious about the consequences of possible military action. This stance of Britain shows that there is no complete consensus on this issue even among western countries. Many European countries are giving priority to diplomatic solutions.

Potential consequences and global impact

Even if America launches a ‘limited military attack’, it could have serious consequences. Iran’s retaliation could have a serious impact on the Gulf region, oil supply routes and regional security. Increasing tension on strategic routes like the Strait of Hormuz could lead to a rise in global oil prices. At the same time, there will be a danger of regional conflict turning into a broader war.

The war between Iran and Israel has now come to this turn from where it is very difficult to return. Meanwhile, America’s attacks have further instigated Iran, after which the Iranian missiles have started having havoc in Israel. There are nuclear weapons behind this crisis in the Middle East, for which Iran has been fighting the war with Israel and other Western countries for decades.

Israel believes that if Iran has made nuclear weapons, it will become a threat to its existence. This is the reason that Israel does not want to let Iran become a nuclear power -rich country. However, Israel itself is a nuclear power country. In such a situation, the question arises that how did Israel make nuclear weapons? When did the world get a glimpse of it and how many atomic bombs do Israel have at present?

How many nuclear weapons have Israel?

Israel is an undeclared country to gain nuclear capacity. Unannounced because Israel never officially believed that it has nuclear weapons and never denied this. In such a situation, it is also very difficult to guess the nuclear weapons of Israel. However, some experts believe that Israel has its own secret nuclear weapon program and is also expanding it rapidly. According to the Federation of American Scientists and Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, Israel currently has 90 nuclear weapons. However, some people believe that Israel has atomic bomb equal to India and Pakistan. This was revealed by an e-mail from former US Secretary of State Colin Powal, in which he said that Israel has 200 nuclear bombs and all of them are targeted Iran. This e-mail of Pawal was leaked.

How did Israel build a atomic bomb?

Israel is one of the nuclear power -rich countries of the world, which did not signed the Nuclear Non -Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The special thing is that Israel’s nuclear program and its nuclear capabilities are largely unclear and the world has very little information about it. According to the information, Israel established the Israeli Atomic Energy Commission in 1952 only after its independence. Some people believe that in 1958 Israel started making nuclear weapons near the city of Dimona and in 1967 it also developed the ability to secretly make nuclear explosives. In 1973, America also became confident that Israel has nuclear weapons. The special thing is that the goods making atomic bombs to Israel were secretly sold by the same countries, which is now part of the Nuclear Non -Proliferation Treaty. These countries had also ignored that this goods would be used to make Israel atomic bombs.

Pakistan Condemns Us Attacks: Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry issued an official statement, strongly condemned the military attacks carried out by the US on three major nuclear bases of Iran. The Ministry of External Affairs said that the attack on Iran’s sovereignty is a serious threat to regional peace and stability.

Stress can increase due to attack, threat to regional peace
Pakistan has expressed deep concern over the latest attacks carried out by the US on Iran’s nuclear bases. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said that these attacks are already part of Israeli actions and this can increase tension and violence in the area. Pakistan believes that this situation is dangerous not only for the peace and stability of the whole world but the whole world.

Iran’s right to self -defense, America violates United Nations Charter
Pakistan clearly stated that these attacks have violated all the rules of international law and United Nations Charter. Iran has every right to protect itself and such attacks on it cannot be justified in any way. This is a dangerous step against international rules.

Negotiations and diplomacy is the solution, safety of citizens is necessary
In the statement, Pakistan has appealed to all countries to respect the life and property of common citizens and stop actions like war immediately. Also, all parties have been advised to follow international law, especially the human rights law. Pakistan emphasized that the solution to the current crisis is possible only with dialogue and diplomacy and for this it is necessary to follow the principles of the United Nations Charter.

Iran Warning to Muslim Countries: Iran has given strict warnings to the Muslim-dominated countries around it amidst the support of the US with the US and the ongoing tension over the nuclear program.

Iran has said that if these six neighboring countries helped America under any circumstances, it will be considered enmity. Iran has clearly stated that if America gets any kind of help in the attack, it will be completely free to answer and can take strict action against those countries.

War against Iran will be considered

According to the Reuters report, Iran has sent a strict message to its six neighboring countries like Iraq, Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, Türkiye and Bahrain. Iran has said that if these countries allow America to use their land or air route, it will consider it a war against Iran.

Iran has given this warning at a time when its tension from America has increased considerably. This message has now also raised the question whether any military attack is going to happen by America? Has Iran already aware of this? For this reason, he has already cautioned American supporting countries around him.

Iran is ready to answer

According to the Reuters report, Iran has warned that if a country supports America, it will have to face serious consequences. Iran has sent this message to Iraq, Kuwait, UAE, Qatar and Bahrain, but the governments of these countries have not yet responded to it.

Earlier, Iran rejected US President Donald Trump’s direct conversation. Iran now wants to talk through Oman. Oman has been helping to hold talks between the two countries earlier. Iran believes that if the conversation is behind the screen, then both countries can talk peacefully without any pressure or public promise.

Iran refuses to negotiate

Donald Trump has recently warned that America can take military action if Iran does not interact on its nuclear program. In response, Iran has clearly said that it will not talk. This has increased tension in the Gulf region.

Experts say that Iran is already preparing for any possible US attack and that is why it has warned its neighboring countries. Iran does not want the surrounding countries to participate in this quarrel. If this happens, America will be alone and it will have to face more difficulties in this fight.
