Elon Musk, one of the world’s top billionaires, has revealed that the name of one of his sons is ‘Shekhar’ and his Indian-origin partner Shivon Gillis has an important contribution behind it. According to Musk, the son has been named this to honor Indian-American Nobel Prize winning astrophysicist Subramaniam Chandrasekhar. Musk’s partner Shivon Zilis is a senior executive at Neuralink.

During an interview, Musk said, “Maybe many people may not know, but my partner Shivon is half Indian. We have named our son’s middle name ‘Shekhar’ after Chandrashekhar.” He further praised the contribution of Indian professionals in America and said that Indian talent has brought immense benefits to America. When he was asked whether Shivon Gillis ever lived in India, Musk said that he was not sure about it. “She grew up in Canada, but has ancestral Indian roots.”

Who is Shivon Jillis?

Shivon Gillis is a well-known professional in the field of tech and artificial intelligence. She joined Neuralink in 2017 and is currently the Director of Operations and Special Projects. Musk and Gilis have been together for many years and welcomed twins Strider and Azure in 2021. Their daughter Arcadia was born in 2024, after which Geillis shared information about the birth of their fourth child, Selden Lycurgus. Musk also has many children from his second partner and he often remains in the headlines for the names of his unique children.

Musk praised Indians

During the interview, Musk once again praised the talent of Indians. He said, “America has benefited greatly from Indian professionals. Their talent and contribution cannot be underestimated.” This statement comes at a time when the environment for Indian immigrants in America is becoming more challenging than ever, especially due to the strict immigration policies of the current Trump administration. Interestingly, Musk was among Trump’s close supporters during the elections, although later their relationship grew distant.
