Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday (October 11) expressed grief over the alleged suicide of senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, terming it a very unfortunate incident. He assured the family of the deceased IPS of strict action and justice.

CM Nayab Singh Saini said, “No matter how influential the criminal is, he will not be spared. If injustice has been done to the family, our government will work to provide justice.”

According to HT report, while speaking at the BJP state executive meeting in Panchkula, CM Saini paid tribute to the late IPS officer by observing two minutes of silence. During this, the CM also said, “This matter will be thoroughly investigated and if anyone is found guilty, strict action will be taken against him.”

IPS Puran Kumar committed suicide on 7 October

Y Puran Kumar was a 2001 batch IPS officer. He was found dead in his residence in Sector-11, Chandigarh on October 7 and bullet marks were found on his body. He had reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a service revolver.

Case registered against many officers including DGP

Chandigarh Police on Thursday (October 09) registered an FIR against Haryana DGP Shatrujit Singh Kapoor and 10 others on charges of instigating IPS officer Y Puran Kumar to commit suicide. This came after Kumar’s wife, IAS Amneet P Kumar, and her family had demanded registration of an FIR into the death of the IPS officer.

In this case, the police also found an 8-page suicide note. In his last note, he had named several senior officials, accusing them of caste-based discrimination and harassment.

The case of suicide of Haryana ADGP Y Puran is now gaining momentum. While the opposition is attacking the ruling party regarding this matter, the politics of the state has also started heating up. Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has expressed condolences by sending a letter to Puran Kumar’s wife Amneet P. Kumar.

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra wrote on social media that the entire country is shocked by the suicide of Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who was troubled by caste harassment. The way injustice, atrocities and violence are going on against Dalits across the country is horrifying. Priyanka Gandhi said that first the murder of Hariom Valmiki ji in Rae Bareli, then the insult of the Chief Justice and now the suicide of a senior officer proves that BJP rule has become a curse for Dalits. He said that when this is the condition of Dalits holding high positions, then imagine under what conditions the common Dalit community would be living.

Former CM of Punjab raised questions

Regarding the suicide of IPS Puran Kumar, former Chief Minister of Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi said that this is the result of Manuwadi thinking of BJP and RSS. He was discriminated against and tortured so much that he had to commit suicide. We will fight until the family gets justice. Why is FIR not being registered against DGP Shatrujit Kapoor and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijaraniyan? The family is not getting justice in the suicide of an ADGP level officer.

Congress MP Deependra Hooda targeted

Congress MP Deependra Hooda said that the family is not satisfied with the action taken so far by the Haryana government and Chandigarh Police. The family should get justice. Raising the question, he said that what is the reason that till now FIR has not been registered against DGP Shatrujit Kapoor and Narendra Bijaraniyan.

IPS Y Puran Kumar shot suicide by shooting

IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, posted as ADGP in Haryana, allegedly shot himself at his residence in Chandigarh Sector-11. According to the information, in the afternoon on Tuesday (October 07), the police received information that Y Puran Kumar committed suicide in the government house in Chandigarh Sector-11.

IPS officer’s body was sent for postmortem

After receiving the information, the police immediately reached the spot. After this, the police sealed the IPS government house and then the team of forensic experts were called for investigation. According to the information, preliminary investigation has revealed that IPS Y Puran Kumar shot himself with his license revolver. At present, the police have taken the body of the IPS officer in its possession and sent it for postmortem.

Y Puran Kumar was a senior IPS officer of Haryana cadre and was currently posted in the Police Training College. He had experience of working in many important positions in the State Police. However, according to officials, the cause of the incident has not been known. The police is investigating the case from all the angles.
