Talking about the specialty of the AMRAAM missile from America, AIM-120 amraam is an air-to-air missile, which is capable of targeting enemy aircraft from long distance. It is used in F-16 Falcon fighter jets. The C5 version of Amraam is currently with the Pakistani Air Force, while the new deal is for the production of C8 and D3 versions. The AIM-120D and its latest versions are the most advanced air-to-air missiles included in the US Air Force (USAF) and the Navy fleet. The maximum range of AIM-120D is more than 180 kilometers, which gives it the ability to accurately target enemy aircraft, drones and cruise missiles in the modern battlefield.

Use of missile in Rafael Fighter Jet

The Indian Air Force had worsened Pakistan’s condition by using Rafael during Operation Sindoor. Rafael is a multi-roll fighter jet (MRFA) which has been developed by Dassault Aviation of France. This aircraft works in both air to air and air to ground. Its maximum speed is about 2,200 kilometers per hour and the range is about 3,700 kilometers. Its fuel capacity is about 11,200 liters and it can fly up to 50,000 feet. Rafael contains 30 mm cannon and 14 hardpoints, on which missiles and bombs can be planted. It has a modern AESA radar, data link and electronic warfare system that makes it effective in any environment.

Rafael can take scalp and hammer together

Rafale aircraft can carry both scalp and Hammer missiles together. This means that it is capable of attacking both long distance and medium distance in the same mission. According to the official press release issued by the US War Department, Pakistan’s name is included in the list of recipients of foreign military sales in this US arms deal.

Strength of AMRAAM missile
AIM-120 AMRAAM is an air-to-air missile, which is capable of targeting enemy aircraft from long ranges. This missile is installed on F-16 Falcon fighter jets. Pakistan Air Force used it during air skirmishes with India after the Balakot airstrike of 2019. Currently, the Pakistan Air Force has the C5 version, while the new deal is for the production of C8 and D3 versions, which have greater range and accuracy.

AIM-120D-3 missiles are the latest and high-tech version of the AMRAAM family. These missiles have been designed to conduct beyond-visual-range (BVR) attacks against enemy fighter jets and incoming missiles.

Pakistan was trying to buy AMRAAM for a long time
Defense analysts say that this missile will further increase the operational range and accuracy of Pakistan’s existing F-16 fleet. With this, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) will be able to respond to air threats better. For a long time, Pakistan was trying to buy new generation AMRAAM in place of the old AIM-120C-5 variant.

The old AIM was delivered to Pakistan in 2010 along with F-16 Block 52 aircraft. After India’s modernization of its air fleet and Operation Vermillion, uneasiness for these new missiles had increased in Pakistan.
