Lalit upadhayay retirement: The year 2025 has been very emotional for cricket fans. This year, many veteran players shocked everyone by retiring. Many legendary players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Steve Smith and Angelo Mathews broke the hearts of the fans by retiring from some format. Now there is bad news for hockey fans. Indian hockey legendary player Lalit Upadhyay said goodbye to the magnificent international career which lasted for more than a decade on Sunday.

Lalit made his debut in international cricket in the World Cup in 2014. Lalit won two Olympic medals in his career for more than ten years. Lalit won the bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with the Indian team. After this, he once again won the bronze medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Lalit played his last international match against Australia on 15 June. Lalit has played 183 matches for India. During this, he scored 67 goals for the team. Lalit has also been awarded the Arjuna Award by the Government of India.

Lalit shared emotional post

Lalit posted on social media and gave information about retirement. Lalit wrote, “Today, I declare retirement from international hockey. It is a very difficult moment, but every athlete has to face it one day or the other. Representing the country is the biggest respect and pride of my life. Thank you everyone.”

Lalit wrote about his journey, “This journey started with low resources but dreams in a small village. From facing a sting operation to the Olympic medal – not once, but twice – it is a challenge, development and forgetful path. It is a proud way. It is something that I will always be an Olympian from my city that I will always keep with me with respect and glory.”

During this time, Lalit also thanked his family, childhood coaches, friends and government to his team captain Harmanpreet Singh.

Jay shah on angelo mathews retirement: Sri Lankan legendary batsman Angelo Mathews has said goodbye to Test cricket on Saturday. He played his last Test match against Bangladesh. Mathews had announced last month that he would retire in the first match of the Test series against Bangladesh. Matthews took the field for the last time on Saturday for a Test match. After retirement, Mathews is getting best wishes from all sides. During this, ICC Chairman Jai Shah has also greeted him after retirement.

Mathews’ legend test career

Mathews’s Test career has been excellent. Mathews has scored 8214 runs in 119 Tests for Sri Lanka. Mathews is the third highest run -scorer for Sri Lanka in Test cricket. More runs than Mathews, two great Sri Lankan players Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene have scored. Sangakkara has scored 12,400 in 134 matches and Jayawardene has scored 11,814 runs in 149 matches.

Mathews has also taken 33 wickets in the Test. Mathews has scored 45 half -centuries and 16 centuries in his Test career. Mathews made his Test debut against Pakistan in 2009 at Galle Maidan. Mathews has now also played his last Test match on Galle ground. Let me tell you that Mathews became the youngest Test captain for Sri Lanka in 2013. Matthews still has that record. Mathews became captain in the Tests at the age of only 25 years and 279 days.

Veteran players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith and Nicholas Puran have retired from different formats. At the same time, New Zealand veteran all -rounder Sophie Divine has also announced to retire from ODI cricket. Divine will say goodbye to ODI cricket after the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 starting on 30 September.

This decision of Divine came before the announcement of the 17 -member Central Contract List by New Zealand Cricket. The players included in the Central Contract List will be announced on Wednesday. Divine will not be included in the central contract. Divine has chosen a casual playing agreement. Under which she will not be included in the contract. But she will be seen playing for the team.

Divine’s ODI career has been excellent. He has scored 3990 runs in 152 ODIs at an average of 31.66. He has scored 8 centuries in this format. I consider myself lucky that New Zealand Cricket helped me reach this decision.”
