We have often heard that diseases like diabetes, high cholesterol, thyroid, or cataract happen only to humans. Now the surprising truth is that these serious diseases are now happening to the animals living in zoos. Even the powerful and dangerous animals like lion, tiger and leopard living in Gorakhpur Zoological Park have now fallen prey to diseases which were earlier found only in humans. Let us know why animals are suffering from diseases like humans?

animals falling ill in zoo

Recently several incidents came to light in Gorakhpur Zoo, in which 90 percent cataract was found in both the eyes of the tigress. There is very little chance of his regaining his sight. Earlier, a leopard had cancer, due to which it died. Now another leopard is suffering from diseases like diabetes, thyroid and high cholesterol. Very high amount of triglyceride was found in his body, which caused swelling. All these diseases were revealed after blood test. Apart from this, Babbar Sher had died some time ago due to an epileptic attack. This was a very unusual incident, because diseases like epilepsy are not usually found in lions.

Why are animals getting diseases like humans?

There is a lot of difference between the environment of a zoo and the freedom of the jungle. Experts believe that living in captivity completely changes the lifestyle and diet of animals. The life of animals living in zoo is completely different from that in the forest. In the forest, animals run and roam for miles, but in the zoo they have very little space to roam. This reduces their physical activity. In the forest, animals hunt for themselves, which keeps them active. But in the zoo, they are given food in fixed quantity at fixed time. This may impair their metabolism.

Animals can come under mental stress due to closed cages and the same lifestyle every day. This also has a bad effect on their health. The activity of most of the animals in zoos is limited, due to which obesity, hormonal changes and metabolic diseases start developing in them and due to all these reasons animals are suffering from human-like diseases.

treatment of animals in zoo

Dr. Yogesh Pratap Singh, Chief Wildlife Veterinarian of Gorakhpur Zoological Park, says that animals are regularly examined in the zoo. These diseases cannot be detected in the forests because no testing is possible there. But blood tests, eye tests and other tests are done from time to time in the zoo. For this reason, diseases like diabetes and thyroid could be detected in leopard on time and tigress is also being treated.

Do you know that animals also fall ill like us? They have serious problems like humans like heart attack or kidney failure. Actually, the system of humans and animals is very similar to the same extent. Most things like our and animals and animals work in different ways like other things like liver. The only difference is that humans can speak and tell their problems, while animals also remain quietly in trouble.

This is the biggest reason that often animal disease does not get caught, until the condition deteriorates. In such a situation, let us know whether the kidney fails of animals and a heart attack comes, as well as how different their system is from humans.

Animal kidney also fails?

Kidney ie kidney is one of the most important parts of the body. Like humans, animal kidney also does many things. Such as removing dirt and waste material from the body, maintaining water balance, keeping salt levels in the blood right and making some essential hormones, when these kidneys do not work properly, it is called kidney failure or chronic kidney disease. In such a situation, early symptoms of animal kidney disease are often minor, but can gradually take serious form if not paid attention. Such as too much thirst and frequent urination, loss of appetite, gradually losing weight, lethargy, vomiting or diarrhea. Due to which the kidney of animals can also fail. Kidney disease in animals can be caused due to many reasons. For example, in humans, the organs are weak when aging, the same happens in animals. In some breeds, this problem occurs from childhood, in addition to infection or bacteria, due to this, bacteria can reach the kidneys in the blood.

Do animals have a heart attack?

Hart, humans or animals are the most important part of everyone’s body. It pumps blood throughout the body and gives oxygen to every cell of the body. If the heart stops working, then the animal can also reach a serious condition. Heart attack in humans is often caused by coronary artery block. Animals may have a similar problem, but its form is slightly different. Animals often suffer from heart disease without symptoms and sometimes they may suddenly have cardiac arrest. Among animals, cardiomyopathy, mitral valve disease, high blood pressure and heart diseases present from birth time are the most common.

As soon as the rain comes, the most concern for the people is the terror of mosquitoes. They have a different eye in the rain, that is, people have to make complete preparations to avoid them. We all know that mosquitoes bite humans and spread dangerous diseases like dengue, malaria and chikungunya. Due to this, hundreds of people also die every year. But have you ever thought that mosquitoes also bite animals? And if you bite, can they also have these diseases? The research of scientists has given an answer to this question, which is necessary for every pet lover to know.

Why mosquitoes bite animals

The female mosquito sucks blood for the development of her eggs. This blood can be taken from humans as well as cows, goats, dogs, cats, horses, birds and even creeping creatures. That is, not only humans, animals also become a target of mosquitoes.

Can animals have dengue?

According to a study published in European Public Health Research (Europe PMC), antibodies have been found against dengue virus in many domestic and wild animals. This means that these animals once came in contact with dengue virus. Research found:

Dengue antibodies are found in about 34 percent of pigs

Antibodies against mosquitoes in 11 percent birds

At the same time, this figure in 4 percent domestic animals (cow, goat)

If we talk about dogs, 1.6 dogs have antibodies

However, scientists say that the symptoms of the disease in these animals do not look like humans and it is not clear whether they can spread the virus further.

Danger of malaria

The malaria anopheles spreads from the mosquito and its plasmodium mainly infects humans. Although malaria mosquitoes sometimes cut animals, research has found that such mosquitoes do not thrive in most animals. That is, the risk of malaria is more in humans.

Chikungunya and Animals

Chikungunya Aedes AEGYPTI and AEDES Albopictus spread from mosquitoes. These mosquitoes also bite animals, but till now it has not been proved that pets or domestic animals have chikungunya disease. This disease is found to be almost completely limited to humans.

Mosquito can also spread some other diseases in animals:

Japanese Encephalitis (JE) – It is found especially in pigs and some birds and mosquitoes can spread it in humans as well.

West Nile Virus (WNV) – It has been found in cow, goat, horses, camels and birds.

Mosquitoes bite humans as well as animals. In some cases, antibodies of diseases like dengue have been found in animals, but this does not mean that they fall ill like humans. Malaria and Chikungunya cases are very low in animals. However, diseases like Japanese encephalitis and West Nile virus are found in animals and can spread to humans.
