Counting of votes for the by-election on Rajasthan’s Anta assembly seat will take place on Friday amid tight security arrangements. Voting was held on Tuesday for Anta assembly seat in Baran district.

An election department official said, ‘The counting of votes will take place on November 14 in the seminar hall of Government Post Graduate College, Baran. During this period, there will be strict security arrangements and the entire campus will be monitored through CCTV cameras.”

80.21 percent voting took place in this by-election. There are a total of 2,28,264 voters in this area. It is noteworthy that this seat has become vacant due to the disqualification of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Kanwarlal Meena.

Anta by-election: 8th by-election in Rajasthan

The ruling BJP has made Morpal Suman its candidate for this by-election. Former minister Pramod Jain Bhaya is contesting from the Congress side. A total of 15 candidates are in the election race, including independent Naresh Meena. Naresh Meena had contested the by-election from Deoli-Uniara assembly seat in Tonk district last year and was accused of slapping an officer on election duty and threatening voters.

This is the eighth assembly by-election in Rajasthan under the Bhajan Lal Sharma-led BJP government that came to power in December 2023.

By-elections were held on seven assembly seats in November last year. By-elections were held on five assembly seats due to MLAs being elected as MPs in the Lok Sabha elections held in May 2024.
