Sexually transmitted infections: The World Health Organization (WHO) has shared a shocking figure in its recently released report. Every day around 1 million people around the world are falling prey to sex infections – stis. These include diseases such as Clamedia, Gonorrhea, Trichomoniasis and Syphilis. It is a matter of concern that in most cases the initial symptoms do not appear, due to which the infection goes on spreading and the situation can be severe. Let us tell you about them.

Why is the danger increasing?

According to experts, the biggest reason for increasing STIS is the lack of unsafe sex and awareness. WHO says that most of the people in the world do not conduct a timely examination, because they do not feel symptoms in the beginning. The situation is no different in India too. The Maharashtra government reports that in just 2022–23 cases of sexually transmitted diseases increased by 33 percent and more than 1 lakh new patients emerged.

Apart from this, antibiotic resistance is also a major challenge. Especially diseases like gonorrhea are no longer showing effect on many medicines, due to which treatment is becoming difficult.

Early symptoms, often people ignore

Although most of the patients do not see any symptoms, then treatment is possible in time if initial signs are noted. These symptoms can be:

• Unusual discharge in men and women
• Burning or pain while urinating
• Pellet
• Unusual bleeding out of periods in women
• Light pain and fatigue in the stomach or pelvic

If these signs are ignored, this infection can further increase the risk of infertility, serious neurological problems and even HIV infection.

Global and its cases in Indian

The WHO report states that in 2022, new cases of syphilis increased by 1 million, and now around 8 million people worldwide are suffering from the disease. The United Nations (UN) has also warned that millions of deaths are happening every year due to STIS. Constant increasing cases in India are becoming a major challenge for public health systems, especially when sex education and screening facilities are very limited in rural areas.

Experts believe that the most important is to prevent stis.

• Endowed sex
• Periodic investigation and screening
• Not to ignore any early symptoms
• Increase awareness and break up social taboo
