Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Tadasha Mishra was appointed the acting Director General of Police (DGP) of Jharkhand on Thursday (November 6). According to a government notification, this appointment was made a day after Anurag Gupta resigned from the post of DGP.

Anurag Gupta took VRS

Meanwhile, the government has accepted the resignation of Anurag Gupta from the post of DGP. The notification said, ‘The application for voluntary retirement submitted by Anurag Gupta, IPS (1990) and DGP is accepted. Gupta will be considered retired from November 6, 2025.

Anurag Gupta was removed from the post of DGP by the Election Commission.

Anurag Gupta’s tenure remained controversial

Actually, the tenure of former DGP Anurag Gupta was surrounded by many controversies. In 2016, during the Rajya Sabha elections, allegations of horse trading were made in Jharkhand. At that time Anurag Gupta was suspended for 26 months.

After this, Anurag Gupta was thrown out of the state in different elections on the instructions of the Election Commission. After the suspension was over, Aurang Gupta held many big positions. He was also given the responsibility of the post of DG of CID and SP. After this, in the year 2024, Hemant Soren government made Anurag Gupta the in-charge DGP of Jharkhand.
