Apple Watch New Feature: Apple has released a major health update for its users in India. The Hypertension Notifications feature that comes with watchOS 26 can now warn Apple Watch users about the early signs related to hypertension i.e. high blood pressure. This is considered to be one of the most important health features of Apple for Indian users.

Lakhs of people in India are suffering from high BP but in most of the cases it is not even detected because it usually keeps increasing without showing any symptoms. Checking BP once in the hospital does not reveal the real situation. Apple is trying to fill this gap by turning the Watch into a smart early-warning system.

How this feature works

Apple Watch tracks the reaction of blood vessels with each heartbeat with the help of its optical heart sensor. If any pattern related to high BP is identified in this data collected for 30 consecutive days, then a notification is immediately sent to the user.

This feature is based on large clinical studies and machine learning models. Apple claims that this system can alert millions of people whose high BP has not yet been diagnosed in the first year itself.

Who can use this feature

For this feature in India you need:

• Apple Watch Series 9 or newer models
• Apple Watch Ultra 2 or newer
• watchOS 26
• iPhone 11 or newer running iOS 26

Other than this:

User must be 22 years of age or older

This feature is not available for pregnant users

This feature is not designed for users with already diagnosed hypertension. If Apple Watch sends an alert, the company recommends that users measure blood pressure with a certified BP monitor for the next seven days and consult a doctor. This process is what the American Heart Association also recommends.

How to turn on Hypertension Notifications

• Update your iPhone to the latest iOS and Watch to watchOS 11 or newer.
• Open the Health app on iPhone.
• Tap on the profile photo above and go to Health Checklist.
• Here turn on Hypertension Notifications option.
• Wear Apple Watch regularly so it can collect enough data.
