Can You Cure Diabetes with Herbs: In today’s era, superfoods and miraculous diets trend rapidly on social media. In such a situation, it has become very important to understand the difference between truth and illusion, especially when more than 10 crore people in India are living with diabetes. Aishwarya A., Consultant Dietitian of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. Kumbhakoni told HT that diabetes cannot be cured by any one spice or home remedy, rather it requires a systematic and individualized plan.

In Indian homes it is often believed that fenugreek seeds, blackberries or cinnamon can “cure” diabetes. Aishwarya clearly says that till now no single food item has been proven to be a cure for diabetes. Some things can become part of a balanced diet, but medicine, regular exercise and constant monitoring are necessary to control blood sugar.

What are the myths about this?

A common myth is that eating too much sugar directly causes diabetes. In fact, frequent consumption of refined sugar and high-calorie foods leads to weight gain, especially fat around the belly, which increases insulin resistance. Sweetened items like packaged juices, cold drinks and energy drinks are linked to the risk of type 2 diabetes. Whereas type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition. There is also a misconception regarding fruits that they should be completely avoided in diabetes. According to experts, fruits contain natural sugar, but also contain fiber, vitamins and antioxidants. Taking whole fruits in the right quantity and instead of juice is a better option.

Is sugar free good?

It is also not right to consider jaggery and honey as safer than sugar. All three are simple carbohydrates and can increase blood sugar rapidly. Similarly, it is not necessary to give up rice completely. Control the quantity and balance it with pulses, vegetables and protein. It is not safe to eat even “sugar-free” sweets openly. These may contain more fat and calories. At the same time, it is also true that diabetes does not happen only to obese people. Even in thin looking people, internal fat can increase insulin resistance. According to Aishwarya, there is no miraculous cure for diabetes. Medical nutrition therapy, balanced diet, right ratio of fiber and protein, and regular lifestyle give better results in the long run. Nutrition taken with correct information is the real power of health.
