What Happens If You Eat Too Many Mangoes: As soon as summer comes, mango season starts and then it becomes not just a fruit but a habit. From breakfast till night, one feels like eating it all the time. But every year one thing is definitely heard that “Don’t eat too many mangoes, it will increase the heat in the body.” So does this really happen or is it just an old belief that continues till today? Let us tell you what the experts say.

What do experts say?

Nutrition head Dr Karuna Chaturvedi told TOI that mango is traditionally called a “hot fruit”, but science does not see it that way. According to him, any food is considered on the basis of its nutrients and not on the basis of whether it is hot or cold. Mango contains natural sugars and elements like mangiferin, which can give a feeling of slight warmth in the body during digestion. But it does not increase body temperature like fever. That means the heat felt is light and temporary.

Who should you pay attention to?

The real difference is quantity. Eating one mango and eating three-four mangoes together, both have different effects. According to Dr. Chaturvedi, eating too many mangoes can cause stomach related problems. The fiber and fructose present in it can cause problems like flatulence, diarrhea or cramps if taken in excessive amounts.

Disadvantages of eating too much mango

Some common effects of eating too much mango are also seen. Such as poor digestion, because excess fiber and natural sugars can affect the intestines. Blood sugar can increase rapidly, which is a matter of concern for people with diabetes. Some people also feel burning or itching around the lips. The reason for this is the sticky substance present near the mango peel, which contains elements that can react with the skin. Apart from this, there is also a risk of weight gain by eating too much.

Why does it feel hot?

The reason why mango feels hot in the summer season is not just the fruit. At this time the body is already going through dehydration and slow digestion. In such a situation, when too much sweet fruit is eaten, the body may feel heavy and hot. That means the heat that is felt is a combined effect of many things. This does not mean that one should give up eating mangoes. Just need to eat it wisely. Limit yourself to one or two mangoes daily, avoid eating too many at once. Take it with curd or water so that balance is maintained. Avoid eating on an empty stomach if digestion is sensitive. Soaking in water for some time before eating is also considered beneficial.
