Owaisi said in an interview that India should increase contacts with Taliban to protect its national security and political interests. He said, ‘I had said in Parliament in 2016 that Taliban will return to power, hence talks with them are necessary. Today they have a government and their foreign minister is in India, while Pakistan is bombing them. Do you see how this is going? We should maintain full diplomatic relations with Kabul. Owaisi says that India’s presence in Afghanistan is important not only from diplomatic but also from security and geopolitical point of view.

Current relations between Taliban and India

India has not directly recognized the Taliban government since their occupation of Afghanistan. However, India is maintaining limited talks with the Taliban regime in the name of humanitarian assistance. After the Taliban capture of Kabul in 2021, India closed its embassy, ​​but later sent a technical team there, which is playing a role in humanitarian aid and communication. India is cautious that its national security should not be affected by the activity of terrorist groups in Afghanistan, but Owaisi believes that maintaining distance will reduce India’s influence and increase the dominance of China and Pakistan in the region.

India benefits from Chabahar Port: Owaisi

Owaisi also mentioned Iran’s Chabahar port in his statement. He said that India should develop a new route from this port to Afghanistan. According to Owaisi, Chabahar is strategically important for India. If India builds a direct route from there to Afghanistan, its position will be stronger than China and Pakistan. India is already investing in developing Chabahar Port to reduce its dependence on Pakistan’s Karachi Port. Owaisi says that if India increases economic and strategic partnership with Afghanistan, it will strengthen its position in the entire region.

Rethinking India’s role in Afghanistan

After the withdrawal of Taliban in Afghanistan, India’s policy has been wait and watch. India has not given official recognition to the Taliban regime in any form, but has maintained contacts through humanitarian assistance, food aid and health programmes. However, experts say that maintaining complete distance from Taliban may cause loss to India. At the same time, leaders like Owaisi are arguing that India should re-establish its influence in Afghanistan.

Deteriorating relations between Taliban and Pakistan

Owaisi also commented on the relations between Pakistan and Taliban in his statement. He said that Pakistan, which was once a supporter of Taliban, is now bombing them. This shows that there are no permanent friends or enemies in international politics. India should take advantage of this situation and strengthen its presence in Kabul. This statement has come at a time when tension is at its peak regarding the Durand Line on the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan, and the Taliban has intensified attacks on Pakistani posts.

Owaisi, terming the new Waqf law unconstitutional, has alleged that its purpose is to destroy Waqf properties. He hoped to get justice from the Supreme Court in this case. Owaisi also questioned how the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) can be the same when there are many different laws for different issues.

Owaisi said that the Waqf law has been enacted against the Muslims. Waqf board is of no use from the new law. Owaisi questioned, “Tell me how this is a progressive law?” Tell me a provision, which will save Waqf’s property. Tell me a provision, which will increase the income of Waqf and a provision that will remove the encroachers. ”
