India T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav and Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf were fined on Tuesday for damaging the image of the game during the Asia Cup in September. Rauf was also suspended for two ODI matches after being given four demerit points during the tournament.

Rauf was given 30 years imprisonment for two separate incidents against India. Different sentences of 30 percent fine were given. Apart from this, he will be banned for two matches in the ODI series against South Africa which started on Tuesday. He will also not play in the second match to be held on November 6.

Indian captain Suryakumar has been fined 30 percent of the match fee. He was found guilty of damaging the reputation of the game. He expressed solidarity with the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and support for the Indian Armed Forces.

Rauf received four demerit points for these two incidents, which were converted into two suspension points as per ICC rules.

One demerit point was also imposed on Jasprit Bumrah for giving ‘plane falling’ signal to Rauf after bowling him in the final. The news that Suryakumar would be fined 30 percent for his comments was first reported by PTI on September 26.

Rauf was found guilty of making objectionable gestures depicting the falling of a plane during the match on September 14. He mocked Indian military action under Operation Sindoor and cited Pakistan’s claim that six Indian fighter planes were shot down during the clash.

He repeated the same gesture on 28 September in an attempt to provoke a group of Indian fans while fielding near the boundary line.

Pakistani batsman Sahibzada Farhan was also given one demerit point but Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh was released without any fine or demerit point.

After completing his half-century against India, Farhan celebrated by making a gun gesture with the bat.

The ICC said in a press release that on 14 September 2025, “Suryakumar Yadav (India) was found guilty of a breach of Rule 2.21 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to conduct that detracts from the image of the game.” He was fined 30 percent of his match fee and given two demerit points.

According to it, “Sahibzada Farhan (Pakistan) was also found guilty of the same offense and was issued an official warning resulting in one demerit point.”

“Haris Rauf (Pak) was also found guilty of the same offense and was fined 30 per cent of his match fee, resulting in two demerit points,” the release said.

Arshdeep’s case was related to a social media clip in which he was seen making fun of Pakistani fans but the ICC match referee did not find it objectionable. The reference was to the India vs Pakistan Super Four match on 21 September.

“Jasprit Bumrah (India) accepted the charge under Rule 2.21 and the proposed official warning for conduct that brings discredit to the game, resulting in one demerit point,” the ICC said on the sanctions imposed for his actions during the September 28 final. He had accepted the ban so no formal hearing was required.

Rauf, who had pleaded innocent during the earlier hearing, was again found making objectionable gestures towards the Indian audience. “After a hearing conducted by ICC Match Referee Richie Richardson, Haris Rauf (Pak) was again found guilty of a breach of Rule 2.21,” the ICC said. He was fined 30 percent of his match fee and given two additional demerit points.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said a big thing in an interview to ANI on the gestures made by Pakistani cricketers on the side of the field during the Asia Cup. He said, “I personally feel that once the decision to play is done, if we think so strongly about Pakistan, we should not have played, but if we are going to play with them, then we should play with the spirit of the game and we should have joined hands with them.”

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said, “We have done this before in 1999, when the Kargil war was going on. The day our soldiers were dying for our country. We were playing the World Cup against Pakistan in England. We were still joining hands with them, because the spirit of sports is different from the spirit between the countries. This is my idea. If the Pakistani team, after being humiliated for the first time, decides to humiliate us for the second time, it shows that there is a lack of sports spirit on both sides. “

Disputes arose during Asia Cup
During the Asia Cup, there were many more controversies from not getting hands in the match played between India and Pakistan, including action related to fighter jet from Pakistani cricketers, which are surrounded by a lot of controversies. In the match played between India and Pakistan during the Asia Cup, the pose from the bat from the bat is also under controversy. This issue was not limited to sports only, but became part of political debate. Cricket between India and Pakistan has always been a political and emotional issue. The bilateral cricket series between the two countries has been closed since 2012 and the matches are held only in events like ICC tournament or Asia Cup.

There is a ruckus on the India-Pakistan match in the Asia Cup. There is still about one and a half months left for the start of the tournament, with India and Pakistan fighting on 14 September (India vs Pakistan asia cup). The issue of not playing with Pakistan has also been raised in the Parliament of India. Just a few days ago, the India-Pakistan match was canceled in WCL 2025. After that, as soon as the news came that BCCI has agreed to play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, similarly a spark erupted in India, which is now spreading like fire. The match is being opposed with Pakistan in the street, but why did BCCI finally agreed and why did the Government of India not stop it from doing so? Know the whole truth here.

Why did BCCI agreed?

After the Pahalgam terror attack and operation vermilion, the relationship between India and Pakistan reached the lowest level of history. Despite this stressful situation, why did the BCCI agree to play with Pakistan in the Asia Cup? The reason behind this is India’s bid for the Olympics 2036. India has not been playing any bilateral series with Pakistan for the last nearly a decade and a half, but to host any multi -nation competition, it is necessary that India does not have objections to any of its staunch rival.

India is going to host Junior Hockey World Cup and Asia Cup this year. The Government of India has allowed Pakistani teams to come to India for both tournaments. Although BCCI is not directly under the Government of India, the path of BCCI to play with Pakistan in the Asia Cup became easy when the government allowed hockey teams.

When will India-Pakistan match be held?

A total of 8 teams are going to participate in the Asia Cup 2025. Although the tournament was going to host India, the BCCI had agreed to get the Asia Cup organized on the neutral venue. Now the tournament will be held in UAE, where the match of India and Pakistan will be played on 14 September.
