According to Times of India, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia said, “We had a meeting with PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi. Since this (Asia Cup Trophy) was not on the agenda of the official meeting, the ICC arranged a separate meeting with Naqvi. We would like to thank the ICC for making an effort to resolve this dispute. Both sides had a cordial discussion and both sides want to resolve this issue as soon as possible.”

Earlier the trophy was kept in the office of Asian Cricket Council in Dubai, but according to the latest update, it has been shifted to Abu Dhabi. News agency ANI has revealed that a few days ago a BCCI official had reached the ACC office and came to know that the trophy was kept somewhere in Abu Dhabi.

A BCCI source was quoted by ANI as saying, “A few days ago, a BCCI official had reached the ACC office. When he tried to gather information about the trophy at the ACC office, he came to know that the trophy has been taken away from here. The trophy is now somewhere in Abu Dhabi and is with Mohsin Naqvi.”

Earlier this month, PCB and ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi had said that if the Indian team wants to take the trophy, then it should come to the ACC office and take the trophy. After that he also offered to organize a trophy presentation ceremony. Naqvi said that in the presentation, the trophy will be given to Team India at his own hands.

Naqvi showed arrogance earlier also

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had also sent an e-mail to Mohsin Naqvi a few days ago asking that the trophy be sent to Team India. But Naqvi had shown arrogance and said that the trophy will be given to Team India only from his hands and for this he talked about getting a presentation ceremony done.

Now former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has supported Mohsin Naqvi on the trophy controversy. After winning the final, the Indian team refused to take the trophy from Naqvi’s hands, described this stance of Team India as ‘the third status’.

Mohsin Naqvi will give the trophy, if Team India refuses to accept it, his respect will fall in the world. The trophy should not be given to him.”

The Indian team refused to take the trophy from the hands of Mohsin Naqvi. After that the Naqvi Trophy was taken with him to the hotel. According to reports, BCCI has raised strong objection to this. Currently, the trophy is with the UAE Cricket Board, but so far no clear information has been revealed in this regard whether the trophy will be given to Team India or not.

Basit Ali further said that if it had been an ICC event and Pakistan team would refuse to take the trophy from the hands of Jai Shah, he would have made a similar statement.
