Suryakumar Yadav, who came to the press conference after the final, made it clear that neither the BCCI nor the government had asked him to take the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi. The decision not to take the trophy was completely of the team. Earlier, Indian players did not join hands with Pakistani players after the match against Pakistan in group stage and Super-4.
