Bollywood’s famous comedian Asrani (84 years), who made everyone laugh with his witty style, passed away from this world, leaving his loved ones crying. He breathed his last at around 3 pm on Monday (20 October). It is being told that Asrani was suffering from serious lung disease. How did Asrani’s health deteriorate?

According to the information, Asrani was admitted in Arogya Nidhi Hospital, Mumbai for 5 days. Doctors told that his chronic respiratory disease (COPD) had worsened. The difficulty in breathing had increased so much that he had to be put on oxygen support. According to doctors, pollution caused by smoke from firecrackers is very dangerous for such patients. Actually, the sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides emitted from firecrackers shrink the tubes of the lungs. Due to this, problems like breathlessness, cough and bronchitis etc. increase. Due to such pollution, the lung capacity of elderly people like Asrani reduces by 30 percent.

How much pollution was there in Mumbai?

Talking about Diwali day i.e. October 20, the country’s financial capital Mumbai was also seen struggling with pollution. According to the website of the Central Pollution Control Board, the average PM 2.5 concentration throughout the day on October 20 in Mumbai was 339 micrograms per cubic meter, which is about 6 times more than the WHO limit of 50. PM 2.5 particles present in the air enter the lungs and cause inflammation. The report of Indian Chest Society says that after Diwali, respiratory infections increase by 40 percent.

How dangerous is pollution for lung patients?

Doctors say that Diwali pollution is poison for the lungs. According to Dr. Radhika Sharma, Senior Consultant Pulmonologist, Vinayak Health Hospital, Delhi, the effect of smog lasts for a week after Diwali. Due to this, the functioning of the lungs reduces by 25 percent. At the same time, breathing also becomes difficult for patients with chronic diseases like COPD or asthma. In fact, PM2.5 particles enter the blood and increase the risk of heart attack.

How to avoid pollution during Diwali?

According to Dr. Harshal R Salve, Additional Professor, Center for Community Medicine, Delhi AIIMS, Diwali pollution increases asthma and COPD in the short-term. At the same time, in the long term the risk of cardio-respiratory disease, stroke and heart attack increases. Apart from this, at AQI 335, respiratory diseases worsen by 40 percent. In such a situation, a mask should be worn to avoid any kind of problem.

The veteran actor was ill for a long time. He was in the hospital for 4 days and today at 3 o’clock in the afternoon he said goodbye to the world. Before his demise, Asrani had also wished his fans a happy Diwali.

According to the DB report, Asrani’s manager Babu Bhai told that the actor was admitted to the hospital 4 days ago. Where it was revealed that Asrani’s chest was filled with water. In such a situation, he was undergoing treatment continuously and in the meantime the actor lost the battle of life and death. A few hours after his death, the family also performed his last rites. Asrani got absorbed in the five elements today at the cremation ground in Shantinagar, Santa Cruz.

Asrani’s full name was Govardhan Asrani. He was a resident of Jaipur, Rajasthan. He entered Bollywood with the film Hare Kanch Ki Chudiyan, released in 1967. Asrani had created a strong fan following with his acting and comic style in his 58-year-old film career.
