Assam election 2026: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Congress party while addressing a huge election rally in Patharkandi in Shribhoomi district of Assam. He said only BJP can save the state from illegal infiltration and preserve its cultural identity.

Addressing the public meeting, Amit Shah said, “Form a BJP government. We have identified the infiltrators. Now it is the turn to select them out one by one. Only BJP can change the name of Karimganj to Shribhoomi. On the other hand, there is Congress which wants to gain power with the help of infiltrators. I leave here today saying, Rahul Gandhi, listen with open ears, we will not let Assam become dominated by infiltrators. Those who have their roots in Italy, how would they know the meaning of Sribhoomi? The Prime Minister has given the status of classical language to Assamese and Bengali.”

The Home Minister said, “When we talk about CAA, the Congress opposes it. The Congress party conspired and tried to make this area an infiltrator-dominated area. By doing dirty vote bank politics, they abolished the Immigrant Act of 1950. Gopinath had brought this Act. Congress passed the IMDT Act in 1983 and gave shelter to the infiltrators here. In Assam, Bengal and Tripura, BJP-NDA in all three places. With the formation of the government, we will selectively expel these infiltrators who are trying to take away the jobs of the poor and the wages of the tea garden workers.

Amit Shah said, “Ever since Rahul Gandhi became the leader of Congress, the public status of all Congress leaders has gone down. Just two days ago, the Congress President said that Gujarat and the states which support BJP are illiterate. Congressmen should be ashamed. You are calling Gujarat, which has given leaders like Dayanand Saraswati, Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Vikram Sarabhai and PM Modi, illiterate. The Congress President had said that RSS and BJP are snakes, they should be killed. I want to tell Kharge that thousands of people from BJP and RSS are standing on the stage, this is not the language of democracy.
