The Election Commission (ECI) has issued strict guidelines regarding West Bengal elections. According to Election Commission sources, the presiding officer of all the booths has to ensure that the buttons of all the candidates are clearly visible on the EVM. The button of any candidate should not be covered with tape, glue or any other material.

EVM tampering will be costly – Election Commission
In the instructions issued by the Election Commission, it has been said that the candidates of the ballot unit should maintain the secrecy of the vote on the button and should not use any colour, ink, perfume or other chemical substance. If any such incident occurs, the Presiding Officer will immediately inform the Sector Officer or Returning Officer. The instructions further state that all such cases can be considered as EVM tampering/interference, which is an electoral offence. In any such case, the ECI will not shy away from taking criminal action including ordering re-polling.

Aerial survey by election officer for the first time in 20 years
State Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Aggarwal conducted an aerial survey of Malda, Uttar Dinajpur, Cooch Behar and Medinipur by Air Force helicopter to take stock of the election preparations.
In the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections 2025, voting has been completed on 14 assembly seats of Patna district. According to ABP Live’s Expert Exit Poll 2025, NDA is seen getting 8 seats while Grand Alliance is seen getting 6 seats.

This estimate is based on the opinion of three senior journalists of Patna, Arun Kumar Pandey, Dhirendra Kumar and Santosh Kumar. Experts believe that compared to 2020, this time NDA seems to be gaining three seats.

Anant Singh will be crowned with victory on Mokama seat

According to ABP report, first of all talking about Mokama seat, all three journalists have predicted the victory of JDU candidate Anant Singh. He says that after the recent murder of Dularchand Yadav, unity among the upper caste voters has increased, due to which JDU is benefiting. Whereas on Barh Assembly seat, all three experts believe that BJP will register a comfortable victory.

Party wise seat distribution of 14 assembly seats of Patna district

BJP: 5 seats

JDU: 3 seats

RJD: 4 seats

Congress: 1 seat

CPI(ML): 1 seat

Complete equation in favor of RJD in Bakhtiyarpur and Fatuha seats.

RJD seems to be successful in maintaining its strong position in Bakhtiyarpur and Fatuha seats. According to the three journalists, the caste equations on these seats are completely in favor of RJD. BJP is said to be leading in Patna Sahib and Kumrar assembly seats. However, Santosh Kumar has expressed the possibility of a close contest in Kumrar because Jan Suraj’s candidate KC Sinha can influence the Kayastha voters.

BJP took lead in Bankipur and Digha seats

On Bankipur and Digha seats, all three journalists are of the same opinion that BJP is leading in these two urban seats. Two journalists have claimed BJP’s victory on Danapur assembly seat, while Santosh Kumar has said that the contest here is tough. He says that the Grand Alliance can benefit in Yadav dominated areas.

Rekha Paswan seems to be getting lead on Masodhi seat

Two journalists have expressed the possibility of victory of JDU’s Shyam Rajak on Phulwari assembly seat, while Santosh Kumar called it a close contest. RJD candidate Rekha Paswan seems to be getting the lead on Masaurhi seat. Whereas Sandeep Saurabh of CPI(ML) from Paliganj is seen saving his seat.

Out of 14 seats in Patna district, NDA took lead in 8 seats.

Apart from this, the three journalists on Vikram and Maner assembly seats have unanimously said that RJD will maintain its hold here. Overall, out of 14 seats in Patna district, NDA is leading on 8 seats and Grand Alliance is leading on 6 seats. This is indicating that the contest is tough, but NDA has a slight lead.

The final round of discussions on seat sharing in the Grand Alliance for the Bihar Assembly elections 2025 is going on. According to sources, this time Congress can field its candidates on 60 seats in the state. The party has completed internal brainstorming on these seats and the grand alliance is likely to be formally announced today.

According to media reports, almost a consensus has been reached regarding seat sharing in the Grand Alliance between RJD, Congress and Left parties. Keeping in mind the strength of its organization, old vote base and local equations, Congress has selected those seats where the party is expected to perform better. Party sources say that the decision on these seats has been taken on the basis of survey report and opinion of workers.

List of possible seats of Congress

The 60 seats on which Congress can field candidates include – Wazirganj, Warisaliganj, Supaul, Barbigha, Forbesganj, Baniyapur, Bahadurganj, Motihari, Kishanganj, Purnia, Kasba, Pranpur, Kadwa, Kodha, Araria, Bihariganj, Bhagalpur, Sonbarsa, Jamalpur, Kusheshwarsthan, Bikram, Benipur, Hisua, Jale, Maharajganj, Kuchaykot, Buxar, Vaishali, Karghar, Manihari, Rosra, Rajpur, Begusarai, Chenari, Beldaur, Kutumba, Kahalgaon, Muzaffarpur, Sultanganj, Khagaria, Amarpur, Aurangabad, Lakhisarai, Valmiki Nagar, Barbigha, Ramnagar, Rajgir, Narkatiaganj, Barh, Chanpatia, Bankipur, Bettiah, Patna Sahib, Govindganj, gone Town, Riga, Tekari and Benipatti etc. Right now Congress is churning on two seats. As soon as it is finalized, their names will also be released.

Congress’s focus on ‘winning seats’

According to Congress sources, this time the party is following the principle of ‘quality over quantity’. This means that strong contenders will be fielded on fewer seats. Congress will especially focus on the seats of North and East Bihar, where the traditional vote bank is still present.

Intensification of movement before announcement in Bihar

Before the formal announcement of seat sharing in the Grand Alliance, a series of meetings are going on at the state headquarters of Congress and the party office in Delhi. It is believed that RJD and Congress can hold a joint press conference by this evening.

In this phase of Bihar elections, these seats for Congress will prove to be a test of both its credibility and organization. Now the focus is on what new political message the party gives by selecting its candidates.
