Voicemail Scam: A new method of fraud is spreading rapidly across the country in which cyber criminals are sending fake voicemails in the name of RBI to trap people. PIB Fact Check has confirmed that this is a complete fraud whose real purpose is to grab people’s banking information.

How is the web of deception being spread?

In this fake voicemail it is claimed that some suspicious transactions have taken place on your credit card and if immediate action is not taken then your bank account may be closed. This message is designed to create panic, so that people hastily give their personal information like card number, PIN or OTP to criminals.

PIB Fact Check has clearly stated that RBI never gives any warning through voicemail nor asks customers to verify details on any unknown call.

Fraudsters often spoof the number of a bank or government agency, making the call appear genuine. As soon as the person trusts the message and returns the call or enters information, criminals force him to give sensitive data in the name of verification. In many cases people lose their entire savings within minutes.

How to avoid this new voicemail scam?

The most important way to stay safe from this scam is to not trust any unknown call or voicemail, even if it is in the name of RBI, bank or government. RBI and banks never ask for personal information through phone or message.

If any message mentions closure, blocking or emergency of your account, first confirm the information by calling the official number of your bank directly. Keep your bank alerts active and always keep your mobile number updated so that security messages are received on time.

Gopalganj Police of Bihar has arrested three suspects while taking major action against cyber fraud. These people used to cheat people in different ways for a long time. Kavilaspur police station had taken this action on the night of 17 October. In which cash and ATM cards and documents worth more than one crore were recovered.

According to the police, this gang was active for a long time. This is the biggest recovery till date. The search for other members of this gang is going on.

Used to get money in different bank accounts

DSP Avantika Dilip Kumar told that the person whose house was raided, earlier used to run a tea shop. Preliminary investigation has revealed that this gang used to send money to different bank accounts through cyber fraud and then made transactions in the form of cash. Police suspect that many other people are involved in this network, the search for whom is going on.

One crore cash and 85 ATMs recovered

Police seized a total of Rs 1,05,49,850 in cash from a house. 85 ATM cards, 75 bank passbooks, 28 checkbooks, Aadhar cards, two laptops, three mobile phones and one car were also seized. Three suspects have been detained from the spot, whom the police are continuously interrogating. The gang was carrying out fraud by making fake calls, online fraud and obtaining account details. Police have started collecting transaction information of accounts through seized ATM cards and passbooks. Cyber ​​cell and local police station are together investigating the gang’s network.

The DSP said that this seizure is one of the biggest operations so far and many important clues have been found in the initial investigation, coordination is also being done with other districts and cyber crime units for further action.

Arrests may increase

Police say that many more arrests can be made in this case and accounts related to different parts of the country are also being investigated. During interrogation of the three arrested accused, information about other members associated with the network is being collected.
