A very worrying news has come out from Australia Cricket. The team’s former veteran batsman Damien Martin is fighting the battle of life and death. 54 year old Martin has been affected by the serious disease of meningitis. He has been kept in induced coma in the hospital. His health suddenly deteriorated on Boxing Day, after which he was immediately admitted to a hospital in Queensland.

Condition worsened on Boxing Day, kept in coma

Damien Martyn’s illness has been confirmed by his close friend and former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist. Gilchrist told the media that Martin is being given excellent medical care. He said that the team of doctors is constantly monitoring his condition. According to Gilchrist, Martin’s wife Amanda and her family are going through this difficult period, but they are getting encouragement from the prayers and good wishes they are receiving from all over the world.

Blessings are coming from the cricket world

After the situation of Damien Martyn came to light, prayers for him are continuously coming from the cricket world. Former Australian coach and player Darren Lehmann wrote an emotional message on social media. He said that he is continuously praying for Martin and his family and hopes that this fighting player will win this fight also. Many former and current players have also wished Martin a speedy recovery.

Australia’s great strokemakers

Damien Martyn was counted among the best stroke-playing batsmen of his era. He participated in 67 Test and 208 ODI matches for Australia. Apart from this, he has also played in four T20 International matches. Martin was also included in the 1999 and 2003 World Cup winning Australian teams.

Cricket fans still remember his unbeaten inning of 88 runs against India in the 2003 World Cup final. In that match, he along with captain Ricky Ponting made an unbeaten partnership of 234 runs, which played a big role in Australia winning the title.

Damien Martyn in statistics

In his career, Martin scored 4406 runs in Test cricket, while he has 5346 runs in his name in ODI. He also scored 120 runs in T20 International. Even after retiring from international cricket in 2006, he remained associated with cricket and his passion for the game was always visible.

A very special and rare heritage related to cricket history is now going to come up for auction. Australia’s great batsman Sir Don Bradman’s Australian Test cap, known as ‘Baggy Green’, will be auctioned next month. This auction will be held through Australia’s famous auction company Lloyds Auctions, in which bidding will start at just $1 and the process will end on January 26, 2026.

The cap remained with the same family for 75 years

Don Bradman had gifted this test cap to one of his fellow test cricketers. Since then this cap remained safe with the same family and was neither auctioned nor displayed publicly for almost 75 years. This is the reason why it is being considered as one of the most precious and emotional legacies in the history of cricket.

Lee Hames of Lloyds Auctions said: “This is an original and priceless piece of cricket history, gifted by Sir Don Bradman himself. Its stay in the same family for so long and its direct association with Bradman makes it extremely special.”

This cap was worn in the series against India

It is being told that Bradman wore this baggy green cap during that Test series of 1947-48. When the Indian team went on Australia tour for the first time. In that historic series, Bradman had scored 715 runs in six innings, which is still considered a big record.

Tremendous interest at international level

Private collectors, museums, institutions and cricket lovers from all over the world can show interest in this auction. Earlier, the record of the most expensive baggy green cap was in the name of late Shane Warne. Whose test cap was sold for more than 1 million Australian dollars for bushfire relief of 2019-20.

Don Bradman: A name, a legacy

Don Bradman was born on 27 August 1908 in New South Wales. He made his Test debut in 1928 and scored 6996 runs in 52 Test matches at an incredible average of 99.94. He has 29 centuries and 13 half-centuries in his name. Even after his death in 2001, his name is immortal in cricket history.

A different passion for cricket is seen in India, that is why in every generation, the youth class dreams of playing for India by considering many cricketers as their source of inspiration. In different stadiums of Varanasi, cricketers are preparing themselves to play at national or international level by practicing daily. In recent times from the district, a player Shakti Singh has not only impressed his coach but also the Australian players did not lag behind in praising his bowling.

Shakti Singh is recognized as a Chinaman of Banaras

Shakti Singh, who hails from Varanasi, is dreaming of playing for India, hence he is taking training as a cricketer. Shakti Singh is a left arm spin bowler and also bat. In fact, during the Net Shenan in the past, Shakti has dismissed the Australian batsman 8 times. Australia wicketkeeper Tim Penn himself was very impressed with him and he wished him for his bright future.

Shakti Singh has been selected in Sports Hostel Kanpur (U 14). He considers Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja his ideal. Due to his bowling action, he is now known as Chinaman of Varanasi. Shakti has also played at the state level, and at the moment the subject of him implicating Australian batsmen in his googly is in the news.

Regular practice and disciplined players are power – coaches

Shakti’s coach Mohammad Zahid says that Shakti is a very disciplined player along with regular practice. In the past, during a net session, he trapped the Australian player several times in his googly and Australian players were also very impressed with his performance. At a very young age, he is moving towards success with his all round performance. There is more competition about cricket sports in India and if this little player affects Australia player, former captain with his bowling, then it is a big deal.
