In IPL 2026, the match between Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals was played on Tuesday. But before the start of the match, captain Shreyas Iyer said that the entire Punjab Kings team expresses deep condolences to Azmatullah Omarzai and his family. The mother of 26-year-old Afghanistan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai has passed away. Afghan cricketers Mohammad Nabi and Karim Jannat confirmed this through social media.

Shreyas Iyer paid tribute

At the time of toss in the match against Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer paid tribute to Azmatullah Omarzai’s mother and said, “On behalf of the entire team, I express my deepest condolences to Azmatullah Omarzai and his entire family. I am sure that we are there to support them in every happiness and sorrow.”

Umarzai’s mother passes away

On Monday evening, April 27, Afghan cricketer Mohammad Nabi made a post on social media. Nabi wrote that he is sorry to inform that the mother of Afghanistan national cricket team player Azmatullah Omarzai has passed away. Karim Jannat also said that he stands with Umarzai and his family in this difficult time.

Punjab Kings team also expressed grief over this sad news through social media. Let us tell you that till now Umarzai had not played a single match in the entire IPL 2026 season.
